Ohhhh, good one. Yes, resort to insults, don't address the issue at hand.
Wow....you sure got me. Boy is my face red.
I say no. It isn't up to any person to terminate the retarded, no matter how severe their condition might be.
As an atheist, I have to make a stand at the point where "feelings" might dictate who or what is "unacceptable" as a valid "person".

or at least see what they're like. Then, when you know what you're talking about and have some basis for your opinion, get back to us. You're idealistic "everybody has a right to life" claptrap is based on ignorance.
You haven't seen what i have, don't tell me what you think is right until you educate yourself.

That is funny. I have worked as a volunteer for special olympics for fifteen years. I also have a realtive who is the burden you describe. Not once have I ever considered having him "put down".

The lumps of flesh I'm talking about can't feed themselves or do anything but drool and cry, or try to hit you after they play with their feces. they're not Special olympic material. They're a waste of air.
Originally posted by Sam The ShamOk. If you feel that you can make that judgment, then you can.

I can't.
It would be interesting to know how many people have even had to think about it and what they decided.

I've seen enough horror stories to know when a mentally defective "person" would be better off dead. If their so called 'quality of life" consists of being diaper changed and spoon fed because they can't do anything but masturbate after they reach puberty, they don't know their name or can put a cup to their mouth if they're thirsty, then what's the point of allowing them to live?
They are a burden to everyone and should be put to sleep. They destroy the lives of everyone around them, and what their parents and siblings go through is a terrible burden that does no good for anyone.
You've said you're an atheist. So am I. I'm a bit confused as to why you are so protective of non-sentient brain damaged things that would die if left alone. What's up with that?

Anyone here ever worked professionally with the severly retarded? I have, and I believe there's a good case for putting them to sleep.
They are a waste of time and resources. They ruin the lives of their families. If you think that sounds cruel, go spend some time with a group of them, and get back to me after you know what you're talking about.
Perhaps you should not spend any more time with those whom you wish to do away with? Ever think of that? Why not leave the rest to those who give a @#$$# about them. As crazy as it sounds some people enjoy working with them.

How can it be eugenics if we are not discussing human life?
Unlike the Nazis, I believe that if a person doesn't want to die, or wouldn't want to die could they make their desires known, then this constitutes a decisive reason against euthanasia.
Originally posted by bbarrSo eugenics is morally acceptable in some cases? How is eugenics morally acceptable verses nonacceptable in your view?
The practice is both eugenic (at least on some definitions of "eugenics" ) and permissible. There are any number of good reasons parents may have for not wanting a child with Down's syndrome, just as there are any number of good reasons people may have for not wanting to be parents.
EDIT: Since fetuses aren't persons, it makes no sense to ask of a fetus ...[text shortened]... on of what makes a life worth living from how individuals conceive of their own lives.

Originally posted by whodeyThat depends on what you mean by "eugenics", obviously. Sometimes the term is used to refer to the implemetation of Social Darwinism, sometimes to other practices. If you can tell me what the necessary conditions are for a practice to be eugenic, I'll try to explain my position on those practices.
So eugenics is morally acceptable in some cases? How is eugenics morally acceptable verses nonacceptable in your view?
Originally posted by whodeyYou're talking about something entirely different. Let's try this again, please pay attention. I was refering to PROFOUNDLY retarded people, not some moderate tard with Down's Syndrome that lights up the room, but sorry creatures that are so brain damaged they can't do anything, period, except befoul themselves and require constant care, like an infant.

Try to keep up with what's being said and not change the example. These things don't light up anybodies room.
