... the media.

Stephen Colbert, Ali G, Jon Stewart, Sandra Bullock, Ron Jeremy, Billy Joel, Natalie Portman, Steven Seagal, jerry Seinfield, Adam Sandler, Dustin Hoffman, Alan King, Roman Polanski, Wolf Blitzer, Steven Spielberg...

list goes on ...

Why are they so over-represented?

Despite your expected protestations to the contrary, this thread comes off as a bit distasteful. Also, Stephen Colbert is reportedly Irish Catholic.

Because they're so talented.

its apparently not 'tasteful', to ask such questions, certain people may not like it, who would have thought that it could make them blush? you may think it, but dont even try to say it!

Stephen Colbert was born in Washington, D.C.[10] and grew up in Charleston, South Carolina on James Island, the youngest of eleven children in an Irish Catholic family.[4

probably once you get to a certain level, the talent scouts will be knocking down your door trying to hire you for their projects.

but to get to that level, you have to apply yourself, AND apply for the lower-level positions, and work your way up.

it helps living and growing up in the media center of the world.

BTW, how many ultra-orthodox Jews in your list?

and 6'5''-plus won't get you to the big leagues if you haven't practiced basketball in high school and college. maybe if you're lucky AND talented you can skip college. (or really really lucky; i am not much on sports stats.)

once you get up there, you can SOMETIMES expect a hand up from people more like you, especially if they feel persecuted.

everyone has built-in impressions of other-ness and it can take an effort of will (more or less effort depending on the persons and situation) to overcome that with strangers and newcomers.

plus, the media harping on other-ness builds triggers and watchguards into our psyches. little kids don't have it so much, but they haven't been exposed so much.

At least EmLasker is being facetious about it; or at least he generally is when he posts this sorts of thing.

To what degree do Jews "feel persecuted" in the U.S. in 2010? Is there prescution?
