@shavixmir saidDoes not sound correct without an article.
See. You write “an empire”.
But quite often that same sentence gets written without the “an”.
@shavixmir saidYes, that would be a good explanation.
It’s a very serious question.
So, you’re suggesting that empire (without a definate article) should be considered as an ism (like imperialism)?
@athousandyoung saidThe ‘Scots’ are so called because of the Scoti who were raiders from Ireland who settled the north western coast of Britain what we now call Scotland after these invaders. If it wasn’t for the Scoti invaders I would be living in Pictland.
Ireland never controlled Scotland. In fact it was the Scots who helped imperialize their Irish ancestors.
Do you consider England to be part of a German Empire?
No I wouldn’t call England a part of the German Empire because neither the Angles nor the Saxons belonged to a non existent Germany, (do not confuse Germanic with Germany) at the time and even if they did they would have been superseded by the Norman Empire as they were preceded by the Roman Empire.
Do you think England is predominately populated by Angles and Saxons?
Who do you think the Irish are? Dublin was founded by Vikings just like York. You seem to like the idea of pure tribal groups in Europe, truth is we’ve been invading and inter breeding for a very long time.

An empire is a sovereign state functioning as an aggregate of nations or people that are ruled over by an emperor or another kind of monarch.
When were Ireland and Scotland united under an Emperor, other than under the English?

The Irish (Irish: Muintir na hÉireann or Na hÉireannaigh) are a nation and ethnic group native to the island of Ireland, who share a common Irish ancestry, identity and culture. Ireland has been inhabited for about 12,500 years according to archaeological studies (see Prehistoric Ireland). For most of Ireland's recorded history, the Irish have been primarily a Gaelic people (see Gaelic Ireland). From the 9th century, small numbers of Vikings settled in Ireland, becoming the Norse-Gaels. Anglo-Normans conquered parts of Ireland in the 12th century, while England's 16th/17th-century (re)conquest and colonisation of Ireland brought many English and Lowland Scots people to parts of the island, especially the north. Today, Ireland is made up of the Republic of Ireland (an independent state) and the smaller Northern Ireland (a part of the United Kingdom). The people of Northern Ireland hold various national identities including British, Irish, Northern Irish or some combination thereof.
The Irish have their own customs, language, music, dance, sports, cuisine and mythology. Although Irish (Gaeilge) was their main language in the past, today most Irish people speak English as their first language. Historically, the Irish nation was made up of kin groups or clans, and the Irish also had their own religion, law code, alphabet and style of dress.
