But don't you think this current compromise, the amnesty, is a good one? What is your counterproposal?
At the same time stop illegal immigration, even if that includes shutting down the border with Mexico completely for a number of years.

Yes, send them all back. Get rid of all of them. Simple as that. When you don't step up to the plate to begin with, it takes work to fix things. No different than anyting else in life.
If you are 200 pounds overweight, then you start losing weight, even if your goal is 200 pounds. The more you let things slide, the more you have to work to fix it.
Originally posted by FMFA better idea. Enforce employment laws strictly, with harsh penalties for companies hiring illegals. The word would get out, and without jobs, nobody would want to come. Those here would go back voluntarily leaving a minority of hard core criminals to be hunted down and deported.

The post that was quoted here has been removedReal violations of human rights, and of citizen's rights ought not be confused with rewarding law breakers. The United States has plenty of shameful history, like most every other place on the planet. Today we have many productive, legal Mexican Americans, Japanese Americans who ought to be every bit the equal of other immigrants who came here earlier.
We can't somehow make up for the past by being stupid in the present.
