@kazetnagorra saidSo now the narrative is that the Republican party is the party of the blue collar worker, eh?
That's a good question, whodey. Why do you favour economic policies that you know reduce prosperity in your society?
Interesting.

@kazetnagorra saidYou are free to believe whatever junk you want.
As a matter of fact, it is simply true.

@quackquack saidWhich societies do you think are the most prosperous? Are those societies characterized by laissez-faire economic policies, such as were common during the 19th Century?

@kazetnagorra saidLast I checked the US far outpaced any country in GDP on the planet, yet the lag Europe and the rest of the world in terms of being socialist?

@kazetnagorra saidThe United States has the most dominant economy in the world. It doesn't have laissez-faire economic policies but it is hurting itself by continually expanding its government.

@whodey saidThe US lags the other developed countries in lots of areas.

Quality of life.
Life expectancy.
Human rights.
US is tops for mass killings though.
And unfair distribution of wealth.
And prison inmates.
So there are things to be proud of.

@wolfgang59 saidYou are certainly entitled to your opinion but I wouldn't change my country to be more like yours.

@quackquack saidThe United States is not among the most prosperous economies in the world. Care to try again?

@wolfgang59 saidThe United States has a progressive taxation system and an unremarkable, but significant welfare state esp. for the elderly, dating back to the 1950s and 60s. It has not been completely dismantled, making the U.S. rank in the middle of the pack when it comes to inequality.

@kazetnagorra saidThe United States whether you like it or dominates the worlds economy. Any significant downturn would effect the rest of the world far more than the other way around. So get a reality check and try again.
The United States is not among the most prosperous economies in the world. Care to try again?

@quackquack saidLike the EU & China do too.
The United States whether you like it or dominates the worlds economy.
But nobody is arguing that the US is not a giant economic power.
It's just that it is full of under-paid, over-worked,
uneducated, unhealthy and mostly clueless citizens.

@wolfgang59 saidI'm pretty confident that all the clueless people in the world don't reside in the US. Furthermore, if low skilled workers were really underpaid we wouldn't have pressure to do economically moronic things that place tariffs on goods. There is one way to know for certain if someone is over or under paid. Have a free market. I'm not sure why you are so afraid of them.

@quackquack saidFree markets led to catastrophic famines in India and Ireland.

@no1marauder saidThis is true, but remember you're dealing with a group of Trump supporters who look upon him as a diety, not a mortal. You won't change their minds with numbers, even if you're correct.
Kind of counter to the right wing narrative here:
Eighteen of the 19 poorest states have legislatures where both chambers are Republican controlled. New Mexico (46th richest, fifth poorest) is Democratic. But there isn’t another blue or purple state until you get to purple Maine (31st richest, 20th poorest) with its “split” legislature of one party in each chamb ...[text shortened]... en and Massachusetts is 18th. https://wallethub.com/edu/states-with-highest-lowest-tax-burden/20494/
