@Suzianne saidApparently it does not occur to Texans to find out why people are homeless and do something about it. Just don't feed them and maybe they will go away....
This is just abject dehumanization. I've seen signs outside of restaurants saying "Do not feed the pigeons". Reasonable since it attracts them and they spread disease. But saying "Do not feed the humans"? And then these representatives presumably go to church and hear about how we should love our neighbor? What's wrong with them?

@Suzianne saidIt's a little word, Suzianne, which is on the tip of my tongue...Hippocratic...? Hippopotamus...? No, that isn't it....Hippocampus...? Nope....Got it, hypocrisy!

@moonbus saidWhat is the homelessness situation like in Switzerland?

@divegeester saidZero. The Swiss sweep them up at night and deport them to Austria.

😆
According to this web site:
https://heilsarmee.ch/themen-angebote/obdachlosigkeit-in-der-schweiz/
(sorry all in Tscherman)
it is estimated that about 4,000 people sleep rough in Switzerland, and that another 16,000 have insecure or unreliable places to sleep.
(BTW: Total population of Switzerland is about 8 mio.)
@caissad4 saidYeah, I know, I was born there (Dallas); voted with my feet. Good riddance. (Yeah, I know, the feeling's mutual.) If TX should ever again secede from the Union, let 'em go.
Ah Texas again . Where ignorance is raised to an artform .
Better yet: give it back to Mexico. Make Mexico pay for it !
😆

@A-Unique-Nickname saidThis can be tricky, Hippos are notoriously reticent about revealing details of their financial position, investment accounts and so on. There are, however, certain clues; is the hippo well dressed? Are its' teeth in good condition? How far is its' head sticking out of the water? According to the latest analysis, there are no hippos living in poverty in Switzerland.
How do you judge the poverty level of a hippopotamus?
@Indonesia-Phil
I can confirm that there are no impecunious hippos in Switzerland . They have to show either ten million in disposable assets in a Swiss bank, or family relationship to Phil Collins, just to get over the border.
@moonbus saidI am aware that Switzerland has always adopted a harsh immigration policy toward hippos and non - human mammalia in general; other countries could perhaps learn from this.

@Suzianne saidname a couple of charities you donate to please.
Blaming the victim is very popular here.
It's one way people can act all "holier-than-thou" and think they appear reasonable.
They wouldn't be caught dead helping their fellow man. They can't get past, "They deserve what's happening to them."
I was brought up better than that. I can't imagine what the next generation of people brought up by animals like this will turn out to be like AND I can't imagine what kind of psychopaths they'll vote for.
@Indonesia-Phil saidIt’s not about harshness. It’s about maintaining integrity. Of course it’s neighborly to invite some hippos over for a BBQ sometimes, but if you let just anybody walk into your kitchen and your bedroom anytime and take whatever they want, you don’t have a family anymore; you have a public soup kitchen cum swinger club sans entry fee.

@moonbus saidThere're also some practical matters to attend to, (if inviting hippos to your house) such as making doors bigger, reinforcing settees and so on. Still, might be worth it for the conversation, and I think Hippos are vegetarian so your pets would be safe, although I suppose one might inadvertently squash the cat.

@Indonesia-Phil saidHippos are gracious guests, if treated with the deference which is their due. It is inadvisable to provoke their ire, however, as the list linked below attests:
