Ted Cruz says Supreme Court was ‘clearly wrong’ with 2015 same-sex marriage ruling

Sen. Ted Cruz said the Supreme Court was off base in 2015 for its ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges that legalized same-sex marriage and believes it should be reconsidered.

"I think that decision was clearly wrong when it was decided," Cruz said on his podcast published Sunday, Verdict With Ted Cruz. "It was the court overreaching.

"Obergefell, like Roe v. Wade, ignored two centuries of our nation’s history. Marriage was always an issue that was left to the states.

This "leave it up to the state" logic means states can could ban interracial marriage. I have zero faith in Thomas to vote against such a measure.

But relationships are only the tip of the iceberg. Guinn v. United States, which banned literacy tests for voting, could be overturned in favor of "states' right".

You know....it suddenly makes sense why Whodey, an ardent racist who posted articles on this site from "whitegenocide.com", was so adamantly in favor of state rights.

@vivify

Does a piece of paper matter that much?

Marriage is outdated anyway and most just stay together because they love each other.

Why are you so insensitive?

I had to edit this to wipe away the tears 🥲

If left up to states, some could ban not only same-sex unions, but any sexual acts not between a husband and his wife, as well as abortions, contraception, miscegenation, and divorce.

Wow. That's a good point:

This is a CNN article talking about fornication laws that are still on the books, like in Idaho. Merely having sex while not married could become a criminal act.

leave it up to the states is the democratic way, you prefer the feds to “dictate” what the states must do

I'm waiting for states to start their own passport deal, need a passport to go from Georgia to North Carolina......
corporations will LOVE the idea of states rights since they are smaller entities than Fed and therefore easier to corrupt and kill unions, or kill the leaders outright like in the 1930's.

Kind of like in Ancient Rome, needing passports to get from one side of the empire to the other, a frigging ream of paper to cross over.

Lots of married people have sex, they’re just not always married to each other. If states’ rights is to be alpha and omega from now on, then having sex with anyone other than your OWN spouse could be criminalized.

Some conjugal relations among cousins are allowed, as are some avuncular relationships. It varies by region / country, so I suppose by US state as well.
