I wasn't going to sign up, but now I might.
It's such a friendly, well moderated site.
So many helpful members .. so welcoming.
Kind of warm and fuzzy .. makes me want to give money to support something like this .. sort of like charity work.
It's not a joke if you have to explain it .. so I won't.
I play my serious chess on another site. I like the interface better and it has a much bigger players base to select opponents from. I've been their a long time and am a paying member.
We've had this same argument at that site several times. The consensus among paying members is that the "freeloaders" and good for the site. It might be hard for some here to comprehend but new members actually come from the freeloaders. That's why we welcome them at this "other site". If I remember right I was welcomed here by a member (very nice) who answered all my questions and played a game with me to show me how it works.
After a few games I found the forums. They're a strange mix IMO .. but at times interesting.
That's it .. interesting, at times.
Would the threat of being banned from the forums make me pony-up the $ and join?
No .. just the opposit as a matter of fact. Some day I might want to join, but never due to a threat.

Whilst you may not have said that a RHP subscription was 'a stupid expenditure' you clearly do not think it worth supporting at the rate of a few pence (cents} a day. But you take advantage of its facilities in the true spirit of a shyster, or 'piker' in a drinks round.
