BTW, do you have any link stating that Iraqi law bars the execution of someone over 70? I can't find anything.
Possibly, but if they hung around they'd have to chnage the law and they are worried about appearances.

I remember reading it somewhere, either on the bbc website or wikipedia, and first mentionned it in this thread: Thread 55428 irritatingly I didn't give a reference. I can't find the link either. It's quite possible that the source I used got it wrong and the error has since been corrected.

Edit: Found it, it's in Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saddam_Hussain in the section on trials in the paragraph next to the picture taken from the bbc.

Why do i feel slightly sad about the death of Saddam Hussein ?

Our country did nothing to prevent his hanging, and for that i feel sad. If they had just thrown a grenade down his foxhole when they found him i'dve laughed like the rest, but this Kangaroo court hanging has left me feel a little cold inside.

Well, I don't like to see any one die no matter how evil they may be perceived to be, but ya know, some people just are begging to be executed. I too kinda felt sorry for him as I saw pictures of him standing there alone in the court room trying to defend himself knowing that nothing he could ever do or say could help save him. Then they showed pictures of the Kurds he had gased and children lying upon their parents dead from the WMD's Saddam used to off them and then my sympathy evaporated as soon as it had appeared. I in no way celebrate his death, but I am sorry to say that I think the world to be a better place for it.

And the 655,000 who have died as victims of the 2003 "liberation".

Cummon guys this is not something the Coalition Froces just said were bored today, lets invade Iraq. Are we forgetting the past, many people have died to keep domocracy and all of the democratic countries safe from insane people such as Hitler, who has a love for killing people, this is just another tyrant who prayed on distruction, and killing as many people as he wants too.I say good for the Iraq Goverment who in fact was the Gov who tried and hung him not COALITION.

Well he was in US custody up to the moment he was killed, and the trial was not a fair one- when the judge was looking partly sympathetic towards him they replaced him with another one.
It was a show trial- worthy of Stalin.
If we wanted democracy in Iraq, why didn't we help the Iraqi people during the uprising after the first Gulf war? There are many muderous dictators, why did we choose Saddam, and why now?
The answer, of course, is oil.
