Baloney. The reason he was executed now is the reason I gave; the US government is pulling the strings there.
BTW, do you have any link stating that Iraqi law bars the execution of someone over 70? I can't find anything.
I remember reading it somewhere, either on the bbc website or wikipedia, and first mentionned it in this thread: Thread 55428 irritatingly I didn't give a reference. I can't find the link either. It's quite possible that the source I used got it wrong and the error has since been corrected.
Edit: Found it, it's in Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saddam_Hussain in the section on trials in the paragraph next to the picture taken from the bbc.
Why do i feel slightly sad about the death of Saddam Hussein ?
Our country did nothing to prevent his hanging, and for that i feel sad. If they had just thrown a grenade down his foxhole when they found him i'dve laughed like the rest, but this Kangaroo court hanging has left me feel a little cold inside.

I too kinda felt sorry for him as I saw pictures of him standing there alone in the court room trying to defend himself knowing that nothing he could ever do or say could help save him. Then they showed pictures of the Kurds he had gased and children lying upon their parents dead from the WMD's Saddam used to off them and then my sympathy evaporated as soon as it had appeared. I in no way celebrate his death, but I am sorry to say that I think the world to be a better place for it.

Or starving, getting killed by rival militias or coalition forces.

It was a show trial- worthy of Stalin.
If we wanted democracy in Iraq, why didn't we help the Iraqi people during the uprising after the first Gulf war? There are many muderous dictators, why did we choose Saddam, and why now?
The answer, of course, is oil.
