Today Billy Graham was taken to the Capital for a showing after he died and a service held.
Does this cross the line of church and state?
From what I hear, he is only the 4rth private citizen to be shown after dying in US history.
Originally posted by @athousandyoungIt is a short list who have even been shown there.
Who were the other 3?
1. Ronald Reagan, U.S. president, 2004
2. John F. Kennedy, U.S. president, 1963
3. Abraham Lincoln, U.S. president, 1865
4. Dwight D. Eisenhower, U.S. president, 1969 (other presidents include William Howard Taft, 1930; Herbert Hoover, 1964; Lyndon Johnson, 1973; Gerald Ford, 2007)
5. Unknown soldier of World War I, 1921 (and others from World War II and Korean War, 1958, and Vietnam era, 1984)
6. Douglas MacArthur, general during World War II, Korean War, 1964
7. Rosa Parks, civil rights pioneer, 2005
8. J. Edgar Hoover, first FBI director, 1972
9-10. U.S. Capitol Police killed on duty, Officer Jacob Chestnut and Detective John Gibson, 1998
It appears Rosa Parks and the two police killed on duty are the only other ones.

There was even prayers given at the event, all this on public property is OK?
Where is the left to protest this with their vagina hats?

whodey: 2. Does this cross the line of church and state?
me: 2. Yes - if you mean capitol.
What did Billy Graham ever do for the country?
edit: Google tells me that it was indeed at the capitol, you should have said.
Totally wrong.

Anyhew......
What did he ever do for the country?
Well let's see, he has been a spiritual counselor for every President since JFK. He joined MLK in the Civil Rights movement. He also traveled behind the iron curtain and gave sermons there. When they told him that most of the audience was KBG, he just smiled and said, "They need to hear the gospel too".
He was instrumental in both the Civil Rights movement success and the Iron Curtain coming down. He also united the country refusing the take political sides or bothering to bicker about various denomination. His message was pure in that it focused on Christ's redemption for all mankind.
He was a man who was a great ambassador for the country and his God. He was a man who brought integrity to the term "TV evangelist".

Capital and capitol are different words with different meanings.
He was instrumental in both the Civil Rights movement success
A friend and supporter of ... not instrumental in its success.
... and the Iron Curtain coming down

Perhaps, but in the scheme of things it's pretty minor compared to old men judging young women who've had abortions.

many atheists from "coming out" and is a barrier to atheists in public office.
A Catholic President, a black President, nearly had a
female President but can you imagine an atheist President?

I would also note that the military has non-sectarian prayers at their events and they regularly have these days even outright Islamic, Jewish, or even Satanic prayers done at public gatherings because people iinsist that they have the right to do so.

In all likelihood, someof our previous Presidents were private atheists.
It is very likely that many of the Unitarian Universalist affiliated Presidents and Freemasons had very, very little to do with Chrsitainity and very little esteem for it back during the days of our Foundation. much of a position.
