I have a serious question. I have seen reports outlining how very addictive nicotine is. I have seen reports outlining how dangerous secondhand smoke is over a period of time. But I have never seen any reports outlining what percentage of non-smokers who breathe secondhand smoke become addicted to nicotine. Has anyone seen such reports?

Not %100 sure but I think the smoker inhales the nicotine and exhales all the rest of the gunk. Has anyone seen the new nicorette inhaler? Helps to quit smoking, am using it now, anyhow, it is just nicotine in a vile and you pop it in the inhaler piece. (Looks like a little tampon, disturbing really) When I feel like a smoke I puff on this thing instead. no smoke at all. kills the craving. So I don't believe nonsmokers can become addicted to nicotine, they just suffer the ill effects of all the added poisons being emitted....carbon monoxide ect ect

Yeeks sounds horrid.
I quit.. with help.

Hi I'm Dan and I'm a cigaholic
I haven't had a cig in 17 years three months and 6 days
Started in navy days...duty free smokes and lots of smoke breaks.
Later in the Police had years of non smokers at work expressing hatred of stink on their clothes from my smoking.
Family pestering.. kids avoiding me
caught short a couple of times... so choice or smokes or lunch?
Feeling nausiated when lighting two at once doing paperwork at 3am for court the next day.
Every cold turned to bronchytis
getting increased feeling that it's no good
Finally after about a year said... I'm gonna buy one last carton.
first six packs gone in a flash... then slower and slower
last pack lasted three days...it was hell saying good buy to each one..
Then the last one went.
I wrote letters to everyone.. filed my nails and went swimming a lot.
The effort was worth it. I wish I had never started.

Tee-hee. Kirk, you crack me up sometimes. Great post. you get a rec.

On the one hand, I have five fingers. On the other I hold a ring that was misplaced from my nose to my finger.

On the one hand, it is wrong to tell a bunch of smokers and their friends who smoke that they can't smoke at the pub they all have smoked at for forty years.

On the other hand, it is wrong for them to go to a restaurant where "strangers" are subject to their smoke. I say let the majority rule each pub. No smoking if food is sold to the public.

Peanuts are not food. Nor is pop-corn.

Just to make it interesting.

It's probably more complicted than that, ngg. It's basically a matter of the "good" people (non-smokers) asserting power over the "bad" people (smokers).

Spoken like a true smoker. How many packs a day are you? Come to think of it, with a post like this one you HAVE to be hitting the hard stuff... what else are you doing?

Smoking is the only thing I can think of that causes injury to others and is perfectly legal to do in public.

I think maybe I'll carry a framing hammer into public from now on and everytime I smell smoke I give the smoker a good thump on the head. Think anyone would mind? Not enough to kill 'em, just give 'em a good knot.

Any smokers feel that my response should be illegal?
