Please don't use search engines.. this is just a straw poll.
I'm particularly interested in entertainers/ musos or even bands etc.
The film director Peter Jackson is the only one I can think of.

Has anyone heard of a crooner called John Rowles who played the big clubs in Vegas and Honalulu?

Some may know Sam Neill the actor.

Did anyone watch a movie called Whale Rider up there?

We are doing ...[text shortened]... f kiwi talent.. but I never met any family or friends in Uk that had heard of anyone.. curious?
I saw Whale Rider and enjoyed it.

Have you seen the films "Bad Taste" and "Braindead"?

A little different from "Lord Of The Rings", although still entertaining. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes.

I think The Chills were from New Zealand too?

Once Were Warriors must have been mentioned already...

Good grief - wouldn't have expected too many non-Kiwis knowing The Chills - good band that they were, though! ๐Ÿ™‚

i've heard of anna panquin and seen her movie, and heard of dame ngaio marsh.

i remember the Galloping Gourmet but his wikipedia page says "Kerr regards himself as a Scot, but grew up in England where his parents were established hoteliers. As a result, much of his childhood was spent amongst some of the most outstanding chefs of Europe. Educated at Brighton College, he became trainee manager at the Roebuck Hotel in East Sussex, England aged just fifteen. After five years in the British Army as catering adviser, Graham became General Manager of England's Royal Ascot Hotel.

He moved to New Zealand, in 1958, becoming chief chef catering adviser for the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
