A theory is the highest possible form of conceptual Idea, one that has never ever been disproven.

There is lots of evidence that contradicts the young earth idea.

Therefore Young Earth can only ever be a hypothesis, not a theory. Old earth is the only viable theory we currently have.

A scientific hypothesis must be testable and based on previous observations or extensions of scientific theories. Therefore YEC isn't even that.

Hmm, yes, I suppose. I was trying to think of other examples, such as 'the moon is made from cheese' but i guess the previous observation would be that it loofs like cheese.

I used to think of science as being extremely constrained, but the more experience i get (I've only been a professional scientist for 4 years) the more dynamic and fluid it is for me really.
