Sure you can. Here is one example.

Claim: There does not exist any non-negative rational number r such that r*r=2.

Proof by Contradiction: Suppose that r*r = 2. Since r is a fraction, it can be written in its reduced form a/b. Thus, we have (a/b)*(a/b)=2. From this, it follows that r is not equal to 0 or 1. Now, consider two cases:

Case 1: r is an integer. Since r is not 0 or 1, it must be 2 or greater. But this would lead to a contradiction for we have already said that r*r=2.

Case 2: r is not an integer. Then a/b is not an integer, and a non-integer multipled by a non-integer does not have an integer product, so (a/b)*(a/b)=2 cannot be true.

In either case, our assumption leads to a contradiciton, so the original claim must be true: 2 has no rational square root.

I have just proved a claim of non-existence.

Me: Uhm . . . I don't know, maybe because you'd have to be a sadistic monster to torture me forever. Why not let me into heaven?

Jesus: Because you turned your back on me and made fun of me lots of times on RHP and because that really hurt my feelings and because I'm still mad at you and stuff.

Me: Gosh, JC, I know you said you had to become like a little child to enter heaven, but I didn't think you had to be a whining brat. Nobody deserves to suffer forever Jesus, no matter how much somebody has hurt you. JC, you need to learn to forgive.

Jesus: I still don't like you and won't play with you.

Me: That's okay, Jesus. There's lots of room in heaven right? I won't bother you. In fact, you won't even know I'm there (figuratively since I suppose you're omniscient). Besides I've always thought you were kind of a tool anyway.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now if that doesn't get me in then to hell with Jesus.

Just because one can't disprove a theory is not proof of it's validity . And you know that Dr Scribbles . If you don't I'm going to be asking for you to be shot right after Darv gets done with RBHILL .

Just because one does not wish to defend his position with argument does not justify making false claims like "You can't prove a negative , you jack-ass !"

Now, now. I didn't say I was going to shoot anyone.

How did Noah get kangaroos from Australia, bison from North America, llamas from South America and so on assembled on the ark? Did he walk, swim or fly and then ride them back to the ark-site?
Later, after the water had receded, how did he get the various animals put back? Or did the animals walk/swim/fly home by themselves?

EDIT OK OK, I know, stay on topic ...

What happened to the fish that are fresh water and can't survive in salt water when it all got mixed in ? Or did Noah have aquariums too ?

Any time you want to go toe to toe with me on an arguement about creation myth , Noahs flood , or any other silly assed piece of crap you want to prop up and call a viable theory - you know where to find me .

Ironic, because you were claiming earlier that one couldn't
prove something didn't happen.

Are you saying you can prove these things didn't happen, then?

Do you retract your previous (fallacious) statement that you can't
prove a negative?

True. He/She can't prove it didn't happen, nevertheless if he/she has obtained even the meanest of education, he/she should be able to provide enough argumentation to convince all but the least obtuse of us that the Great Flood story is a myth.

I did not say it didn't happen . You claimed I said that . I asked a question "What happened to the fresh water fish ....? " (And also if Noah had aquariums .) This is pointing out a logical hole in the story . Stacking those up (which is easy) does not disprove the story of Noahs great flood , it indictates the it is highly improbable .

First of all, I claimed nothing. That was my first post in this thread.
Second of all, I didn't say whether or not you said it happened.

You made the (false) claim that "You can't prove a negative , you jack-ass !"
to RBHILL's claim that 'You can't prove that it never happened.'

(You will note that your claim was subsequently and easily refuted.)

Afterwards, you made the boast:
Any time you want to go toe to toe with me on an arguement about creation myth , Noahs flood , or any other silly assed piece of crap you want to prop up and call a viable theory - you know where to find me .

In other words, you plan to 'prove' that something didn't happen (you plan
to 'prove something didn't happen,' that is, a negative).

Which is it? Can you prove a negative or not? You either mispoke earlier
or later.

There could have been someone named Noah who saved his flock from a flood by means of a boat. The Noah story could well be based on an actual event, I don't think it takes too much imagination or education to see this.
Flooding the entire planet to the stratosphere is quite a leap however.

Sorry blind, the myth of "noah" is a story stolen by the Hebrews from the Mesopatomians.
It was originally the story of 4 Gods who decide to end life on this planet. A 5th God comes down and tells Ut-napishtim to build a boat in order to be saved. The flood (in the older story) lasted 7 days and nights.
Why do you want to cling to this Pagan myth?
