@sh76 saidNo.
In the county that I live, transmission is now well below the CDC's magic number of 10/100k and the positive test % has been under 1% for three straight days.
Yes, they're still making kids wear masks in public schools (my kids don't go to public school, thankfully).
Would you agree that is unjustified?
Your county and the rest of NY State had a sharp increase in December and January in COVID cases and deaths. IF public health authorities in the State think it is still too early to lift the school mask mandate, then it isn't "unjustified". Schools are an excellent place for COVID to spread esp. in winter since there are lots of individuals packed in close quarters indoors.
Our Governor has said she will review the situation and decide in the coming weeks whether the data justifies an end to school mask mandates. That seems reasonable considering, as she said, ""This is still an ongoing, dangerous pandemic," https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/central-ny/ny-state-of-politics/2022/02/15/hochul---combination-of-factors--will-decide-school-mask-mandate

A whole 3 days., huh?

@no1marauder saidWe obviously have very different views on the costs associated with masking children for the whole day. In my view, those imposing these cost have the burden to show necessity (I don't mean from a legal perspective, I mean from a societal cost/benefit perspective).

I've never seen any "cost" associated with mask mandates in schools that came close to matching the costs of increased COVID spread including cases, hospitalizations and deaths.
@no1marauder saidI would venture to guess that

younger children actually enjoy,
'dressing up,' with masks.

School mask mandates are on the way out or out almost everywhere by now. In Europe, by and large, they were never a thing.

How many were caused to be sick, hospitalized or dead because of the acceptance of your COVID minimization views?

People gave obviously wrong answers to simple questions just because everybody else in the room did first.
@sh76 saidYour assertion about Europe appears to be incorrect: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/jan/03/masks-for-school-students-mandatory-in-several-eu-countries

In preschools, mask wearing could also reduce secondary cases,” concluded Kästner." https://www.healtheuropa.eu/wearing-face-masks-reduces-covid-19-transmission-in-schools/112453/

@no1marauder saidOkay. So you're allowed to cite "public health authorities on my side" and that's not a bandwagon fallacy and I'm not allowed to cite decisionmakers in virtual unanimity from around the country because that's the bandwagon fallacy.

Hochul is almost certain to lift the school mask mandate in early March, so I don't see what you are whining about; just take your kudos for contributing to the suffering and death of COVID you and other COVID minimizers have helped cause (by giving political cover to people like DeSantis).
Personally, I'd like to see vaccination of children in New York 5-11 go at least over 50% before the mask mandate was ended (currently it sits at 38.6% one dose and 31.9% full vaccination https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/demographic-vaccination-data) but that's probably politically impossible these days.

A. stakes a claim on the children of people he doesn't even know so as to turn them into lab rats.
