Who in Vietnam benefitted from U.S. interests drilling for oil in Vietnamese waters?
Nobody. Because there weren't any.

There was no U.S. oil drilling in Vietnamese waters?

Why were U.S. military ships protecting Texaco - certainly in 1973 but perhaps as early as 1970 or even earlier - while they were drilling for oil off the Vietnamese coast, then?

Once again, I never heard of that happening, or of any off shore oil wells around Viet Nam. Some "friend of a friend" story is all it is.

Wish I had a nickle for every BS story I heard in the military. Navy guy once told me that there was a huge Titanium deposit found in Viet Nam in the early 60's, that's why we went in, and we left as soon as it was mined out in '73.

Everything he told me about his military days smelled fishy.

That's one of the problems with Titanium. And ordinary soap never seems to do the job.

I can't. Apparently it's an urban myth. Several posters have pointed it out.
