The last couple pages are all junk. I see people squabbling over the definition of Scandinavia but I don't know why.

Why are you interested in the definition of Scandinavia? What's it got to do with economics, which is what this thread started off being about?

I could change my flag to Finland too ... I know Lundos is Danish because it shows.
i'd normally listen to you even with the handicap of having FMF on the same side of the argument, except that you're arguing with the three dictionary entries and one encyclopedia entry already posted that all make sense, which you're not. if this were the Swedish-Norwegian-Danish-language RHP forum, it might, but it isn't.

I'm sure you're having a good laugh but it's at your own expense, really.
Norway's discriminating against the poor people! they tax the hell out of people who then must go Big-Mac-less! rich folk like we can buy all the Big Macs we want, but what about the poor?

Trust me. You will never ever ever EVER meet a Finn - and I've known a fair few - who considered him/herself to be Scandinavian.

Like Bosse said - or in fact to rephrase Bosse slightly - it'd be like Finns saying they are Mediterraneans.

LOL. 😀

THE FOX AND THE GRAPES

A Fox one day spied a beautiful bunch of ripe grapes hanging from a vine trained along the branches of a tree. The grapes seemed ready to burst with juice, and the Fox's mouth watered as he gazed longingly at them.

The bunch hung from a high branch, and the Fox had to jump for it. The first time he jumped he missed it by a long way. So he walked off a short distance and took a running leap at it, only to fall short once more. Again and again he tried, but in vain.

Now he sat down and looked at the grapes in disgust.

"What a fool I am," he said. "Here I am wearing myself out to get a bunch of sour grapes that are not worth gaping for."

And off he walked very, very scornfully.

Yes, the dictionary entries and encyclopedia entries make sense, but they say different things, don't they? Besides, I'm not arguing with them, I'm arguing with you. Your sources aren't infallible, especially not the frigging CIA one. I'd always ask a person from the region for their opinion before consulting an American.

At best you have the position that 'Scandinavia' means different things to different people, which I'd accept; I'd also ask why you care so much.

we're posting in the English language forum, not the Scandinavian-defined-as-Sweden-Denmark-Norway-only forum, aren't we?

this topic is probably more interesting than a "Thriving Norways provides economics lesson" thread which ignores (or possibly pooh-poohs, if i cared to scroll back and look) the possibility that Norway's success is a windfall based on pumping out oil and shipping it to other countries.

if we subtracted Norway's oil revenues would it look something like Poland or Ukraine, etc.?
