That advertising increases sales is no news - that's what advertising is about. (sheesh)

People choose to watch tv, i.e. they choose to subject themselves to advertising. Some don't or they watch another channel or flick channels when the ads are ...[text shortened]... no advertising campaign in the world that can make a person do something they don't want to.
The fact that some people are not influenced by advertising doesn't mean that they chose not to be. Interesting that you didn't pick up on my mentioning the subconscious and conscious mind in terms of choice.

Your statements about fast food are true. Yet people still consume it excess to the detriment of their health. Surely this is not rational behaviour.

Just because some people aren't caused to act irrationally by an advert doesn't mean that the people that are caused to act irrationally choose to act that way.

3)I'm fine with freedom, as long as the free are sufficiently educated.

Translation: as long as the free have been first brainwashed by the state (as per mcstabby)[/b]
1) So let all those in the insane asylum free
3) I have not advocated brainwashing by the state at any point; I have only disputed brainwashing by business.

I just saw a McDonalds commercial that was selling their salads and the final statement by the guy in the ad said " I dont need a bun to feel like a man"... is it ok to use this advertising trick if it is for the greater good of society?
