@kmax87 saidYou're just confirming what I've written. Access to the winter fuel payment is now linked to a means tested benefit (like Pension credit) which is a fair way of ensuring funds go to people who most need it.
From the GOV UK website
Eligibility
You can get a Winter Fuel Payment for Winter 2024 to 2025 if you were born before 23 September 1958.
You must also live in England, Wales or Northern Ireland and get one of the following:
Pension Credit
Universal Credit
income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA)
Income Support ...[text shortened]... eptember 2024
So in classic debates forum engagement you guys seem to be arguing past each other.
@divegeester
Take Edna. She only receives a basic pension but has always received the winter fuel payment which she really needed to get through the colder months. This year she had it stopped due to not receiving a means tested benefit.
Good news. Edna was helped to apply for Pension Credit, something she didn't know she was entitled to. Edna now not only gets the winter fuel payment again but also gets an extra 4 thousand pounds a year.
Happy Christmas Edna.
