Americans who had already heard enough from Trump before 2016 already believed Trump the first time he showed us who he was long before the election. ...[text shortened]... wasn't enough to keep him out of office, mainly because of ignorant excuses like you're giving here.
Ye right. You knew exactly what he was going to do and how bad he is going to get. Sure.
"But because there were American voters as ignorant of him before the election as you apparently were, they took a chance on him, and look where we are now."
Yep. They took a chance on him. Because Clinton was offering nothing. Clinton was claiming America was already great, which for them it obviously wasn't. Because what you fail to understand is that for some americans decorum and the status quo is not enough,that they couldn't care less what happens to american democracy if they have nothing to eat or if an illness could bankrupt them.
"The problem was that, as bad a choice as Trump was, there were also a small measure of Democrats who saw the election as such a no-brainer that they thought, "How could anyone vote for this con man?", and so didn't vote. "
And there were democrats and independents who voted for Obama and switched to Trump. And there were poor people in the rust belt who voted for the one promising to bring jobs back. And there were young people who didn't get anything out of either candidate and they didn't vote. Why should they? So that you feel good about your president?
Stop acting like you're entitled to people's votes. You act all outraged as if that 20 year old who can barely afford rent and is screwed if he catches a cold just HAS to stay in line to vote for a candidate that promised him nothing.
@suzianne saidjust curious, do you have healthcare? a home you own? no college loans or almost payed in full? Are you middle aged towards retirement?

Are you the stereotypical suburban white person, comfortably middle class, who is not rich enough to vote republican and their tax cuts but rich enough that you don't have the worries of the poor?
Just trying to form a picture of you. You seem to be quite determined to blame the poor for Trump winning in 2016 and not assign any blame at the feet of Clinton and the DNC.
@zahlanzi saidYour good. Bravo

Actually its kind of like shooting fish in a barrel here...isn't it?

Make no mistake, for all my criticizing her, i still think she is ten times better than you. Which pretty much sums up how i view Biden vs Trump

"It's not enough for pampered elites that many young leftists will suck it up and vote for Biden. They're also pestering you in an angry/ entitled way to be happy about it! Every single day they find a way to alienate the base more."
This tweet pretty much sums up the divide between the two camps of the Democratic party

@joe-shmo saidThe Lannisters lost! Well except Tyrion. But he didn't have that attitude.

@zahlanzi saidYes. We did.

Ye right. You knew exactly what he was going to do and how bad he is going to get. Sure.
He started his campaign calling Mexican immigrant rapists and calling for a ban Muslims. He said he'd *increase* the torture of suspected terrorists and kill their families. He talked about his penis during a presidential debate, openly asked a foreign country to interfere in an election on live TV and on and on and on.
The fact that a Trump presidency would be disastrous was quite obvious. Who cares if we knew "exactly" how that disaster would unfold, we just knew it happen....and a disaster is exactly what we got.

Dude common. Be fair. You knew he is racist. You knew he is not above saying anything to get elected. You knew he will try to dismantle Obamacare simply out of spite. You didn't know a deadly pandemic will occur and that he will mismanage it to this degree, you didn't know that racial tensions will finally boil over and that nationwide protests will occur.
And again, none of it matters. Someone who voted for Trump might not have obamacare at all or pay too much for it, he wouldn't care that he will dismantle it. He only knew that Clinton said it is awesome and there will be more of the same. Biden right now is again pushing for "access to healthcare".
Someone who voted for Trump might not have had a job, Trump promised him one, Clinton didn't even set foot in his state.
" He talked about his ==D during a presidential debate, openly asked a foreign country to interfere in an election on live TV and on and on and on. "
None of this matters to someone who cannot put food on the table.
Dude, can you agree people have various concerns? I am from Romania, my concern is that Trump will start a war that might be dangerous to me and that he will wreck the world economy. You, like Suzianne, might already have healthcare and no college debt, might own your home, might have a job. Your concern is that Trump doesn't pick another supreme court judge. Someone in a small town in Alabama couldn't be less concerned about that. The only factory in town is closing because of deals supported by Clinton and Biden and Obama, the notion that he might not be able to feed his children is slightly more pressing than Trump talking about his ==D or who sits on the supreme court.
"The fact that a Trump presidency would be disastrous was quite obvious. "
Yep, for people who had nothing much to lose either way. For people like the ones i mentioned, a gamble on Trump was worth more than the almost certainty Clinton wasn't going to do anything.
"Who cares if we knew "exactly" how that disaster would unfold, we just knew it happen....and a disaster is exactly what we got."
That's just you wishing for an "i told you so" scenario. Rather than saying I told you so, can you join in helping to avoid such a scenario from happening in the future? You can't just demand people vote for your guy. The "nothing" Biden is probably going to deliver doesn't hurt you. It really hurts the one in dire need of change.
If you're drowning, you want that drowning to stop. That's your immediate concern. You can't think that maybe you will be thrown in a deeper lake or the lake would be on fire. You want the current situation to change because that's what's killing you at the moment. You're on the edge of the lake worrying about how ugly the landscape might become.
@zahlanzi saidYup.
You knew he is racist. You knew he is not above saying anything to get elected. You knew he will try to dismantle Obamacare simply out of spite.
You didn't know a deadly pandemic will occur and that he will mismanage it to this degree
But we all knew he was clearly uninformed and unintelligent, to an almost spectacular degree. That Trump would mishandle a pandemic (or literally anything) was a given.
Someone who voted for Trump might not have had a job, Trump promised him one, Clinton didn't even set foot in his state.
I don't blame those in mid-western or poorer states for voting for Trump. He's charismatic if nothing else and he knew how to speak their language. When I criticize conservatives or Republicans for electing Trump, I don't include those people. I've worked jobs where I had to speak to such people who lived in regions where lack of access to the internet was normal, and the average person couldn't afford higher education.
I never include those people when criticizing Trump voters, and I'll go out on a limb and say that most critics of Trump's voters aren't looking to criticize them as either. The ire is aimed at people like the conservatives on this site who have no excuse not to know better; people with the same access to information that you and I have but still choose the dumbest possible positions and still choose racist, immoral and unintelligent people for elected office.

He managed to stay rich despite fukin it up 4 times. Some guy who saw his job being outsourced hoped that he might abstain from messing up long enough to get him a job. He hoped he was just talking when he said those horrible things. He hoped the senate and house will keep him in check.
"I don't blame those in mid-western or poorer states for voting for Trump."
Good, glad to hear it.

There will always be horrible people. He didn't win because of those. He won because of all the people who stayed home, all the people who switched from Obama to him. He won because he went after the right votes and Clinton just assumed the presidency was her divine right for which she doesn't have to work.
