You really do live in some kind of time warp.

Yes, the blessed Margaret (may she die in pain) saved us all from the scary communists (who were also anarchists in their spare time).

Its like a Monty Python take on Modern History.
I'm afraid that it is you who live in a time warp since you appear to believe that socialism (or communism} can be made to operate successfully to rid the world of all its woes despite the fact that it has already failed miserably everytime and everywhere it has been tried out,
There's one good thing about your brand however; it would not affect us in England except that we should very likely be called upon to bail Scotland out, as an act of charity, when your lot had wrecked the Scottish economy.

You forgot the convenient excuse which is used when you point out that communism has failed around the world: "But that wasn't real communism".

Yes, thank you for pointing this out. Just like the thick Labour supporters ,'old' and 'new', who blame each other for not having applied 'real socialism'.
Now we have our resident Scotch Socialist, Redmike, claiming to have found the Holy Grail at last. At least if he and his mates ever succeeded in conning the Scotch voters we in England would not have to suffer directly, although I am sure we should be called upon to bail them out when the SSP succeeded in wrecking the Scottish economy.

Communism, almost by definition, cannot exist in a single country. For this reason alone, communism hasn't been tried anywhere.

Sure, there have been communist parties in control of various countries. Just because you have a party in power which calls itself a communist party doesn't mean you are operating a communist economy.

There are all sorts of reasons why other countries, such as the USSR, didn't get far down the road to communism, but their idea that you could impose communism by conquest wasn't ever going to work.

If, by some chance, the SSP was to win a majority at next year's Scottish Parliamentary elections (I don't think we're standing in enough seats, but never mind, it is hypothetical), that wouldn't somehow make Scotland a communist/socialist country overnight. It would just mean we had a government which was committed to getting us there.

I'd rather trust the SNP to make a success of getting Scotland off England's back.

Luckily, you don't have a say in the matter.

I'm sure the SNP will welcome the support of a tory though.

Well, at least the leader of the SNP talks more sense than you do.

Any surprises?
Big losses for Labour, mostly to the Tories.
Lib Dems about the same.
BNP doubled their seats to 44.
Not all the results are in - none of the ones in West Yorkshire, where I live, are.
I suspect my ward will be all Tory, as usual, but I think Green ran them pretty close last time.
Should be interesting.

And Respect got at least 12, including 11 in Tower Hamlets.

As well as a gain for the Socialist Alternative in Coventry - 3 socialist councillors there now.

Is Dave Nellist still around in Coventry?
I used to live there in the early 90's and there was "Dave Nellist Working Class Hero" sprayed on quite a few walls.

Yes, Dave Nellist is still there - he is one of the 3 councillors.

It is a shame that Respect and the other left groups can't get their acts together.

No surprises in my ward - Con hold: 1981 votes to the Green's 1901.
Pretty close, though.
