We ain't gonna give up our way of life , our DVDs or our cars for that matter. The world population is just going to grow and grow. We need loads of power. The only current technology capable of producing that power with limited CO2 is nuclear energy.

Can it be that the thing that the green movement campaigned against might save the world?

I could make a similar argument for hydrogen cars but that technology needs bringing on a bit. However, isn't it time we faced the facts.

1)We ain't gonna change our ways
2)CO2 is sterring us towards disaster
3)We need Co2 free solutions for creating electricity and powering cars

Thoughts?

I agree

nuclear energy is, like marijuana or Wall St bonuses, one of those "Things That Everyone Knows Is Evil" where rational discussion often becomes impossible.

It's possible you are correct. I believe renewable resources should be used to there full potential before we go too far in that direction😏

You are completely correct, mass safe nuclear power is only way to properly address the environmental issues and free the west from the tyranny of OPEC. The problem is that the general masses care enough to vote for windmills and recycling bins, but not enough to pay the billions that a vision like this would cost.

I am all for renewable resources but they just won't cut the mustard in time. I think having to dispose of nuclear waste or risking another Chernobyl is just a chance we have to take.

In the UK "what the masses want" seems to have little influence. The masses didn't wnat Iraq , many don't want Afghanistan and they certainly didn't want trillions spent to prop up bankers bonuses and bail them out.

I think if governments sold us a nuclear program on the basis that it could save the planet and help us keep our tumble dryers that might be quite cool with voters actually. At the end of the day many voters have children and grandchildren - what about their future?

Of course now you are talking about whether or not we live in a democracy; we don't. Seemingly irrational wars, restrictions on freedom of speech and the European union of independent countries will happen, irrespective of what the voters want.

Nuclear power is a good way to make cheap, clean power until nuclear fusion power becomes available (if it does). Also, the main producers of uranium (Canada, Australia, Kazakhstan) are all stable countries.

On a side note, people will definitely change their ways if power becomes more expensive, because saving power becomes a better investment.

We could all be driving hydrogen cars now if it were not for big oil companies and their profit driven, greedy ways.

Hydrogen is a fairly inefficient way of fueling cars. Electric cars are more efficient.

One problem - it might be too late by then.

But hydrogen cars are more powerful and can go further (I think?) My understanding is that electric cars can't perform anything like petrol , but hydrogen cars at least have a chance. People want something as close to what we now have as possible.

It's not a black and white issue. As electricity becomes more expensive, people will gradually be more interested in saving power.
