@metal-brain saidBernie Sanders often remarks that a corporation doesn’t need all that money, or for that matter, certain people do not need to have all of the money that they have. If you subscribe to that, you should vote for Bernie Sanders, and everything will be properly divided up in your eyes.
Wages have dropped when adjusted for inflation. We are tired of getting screwed, but that doesn't mean I am getting any welfare. Parents who have children have always gotten a generous amount of welfare. It is people without children who have to pull their own weight.
Big corporations get the most welfare and they don't even need it. Start there and work your way down.
In your perfect world, no one would ever have to roof a house, and also no one would ever be able to own a yacht. Everyone would meet in the middle. Ahhh, It sounds so wonderful.
Of course, there is that pesky little factor that there will be no one around to roof a house!!!!! And, no one around to create jobs!!!!!!

@averagejoe1 saidHe may not be lying. I dunno. But I need explained how they’re doing it. It doesn’t sound realistic.
I too am in amazement, I did not fully read the article, we are all up to our ears with incoming info, but rely on the source, the author. The New York Post put out the Hunter story, many claimed it was a lie. So, you could claim this guy is lying I guess.

Some will rise to the top easier than others.
They may work harder, be smarter, or just be in the right place at the right time.
I believe that if I dropped $50 million in small bills from a helicopter in the middle of a downtown street, 80% of the money will be picked up by 20% of the people.
It's just nature.
@averagejoe1 saidIt looks like this article presents a hypothetical scenario in which a family of four (2 working parents) are both laid off and collecting unemployment. In this scene, it is possible in 3 out of 50 states for this family to collect more than a median earner in the economy. I have no idea how common that is but it seems like an unlikely occurrence.

Moreover, it appears that in the same family the income would still be much higher if they both were still working. So in this specific example the incentive to remain unemployed to collect benefits doesn't seem to exist .

@wildgrass saidMany workers pay for unemployment insurance. A small amount of money is taken out of their paycheck to pay for it, and the particulars vary from state to state. The amount the insurance pays out usually depends on how much income the worker was bringing in while employed.

I'm sure Subpar Joe will tell us all about what a socialist scam this is, crawling with parasites angling for a free ride.

@soothfast saidYes, one of the sources. There are many, and the losers know them all. 14 states are really up there.

@averagejoe1 saidNo, no, no.
Yes, one of the sources. There are many, and the losers know them all. 14 states are really up there.
Explain the mechanics.
How does a family of 4, who do not work, get 108.000 dollars a year?
One way, seemingly, is if they were high earners and bought an insurance… then got laid off… sounds like a very good insurance to me. But that’s not 108.000$ by sucking the State’s teet, is it?
Explain how this works.
Otherwise, you’re just flabbing about like Wayoma in a Koala park full of Chlymidic teddy bears.
@shavixmir
Extreme examples could do it but no.
Welfare is about 8 thousand a year or less.
Immigrants can get more during their first year but even that wouldn't reach 100k for 4 people.
Unemployment insurance is paid into by the workers too.
Come on Joe 🙄

@shavixmir saidSo the Shav once again discredits a prominent economist-type who studies and researches this stuff. He’s wrong is he? Whew. You fellers are are hard to get through to, but I will keep trying. The guy is prominent Shav. He gets a lot of editorial time.
No, no, no.

@booger saidunemployment insurance is paid mostly by the employer, the state/fed govt is responsible in the end.

@mott-the-hoople saidNevertheless, the issue is that people in this country, because of all of our unemployment insurance and free money and everything else, have one hell of an operation going on. Why work.? No incentive. That is The OP. Yes, in this case, the employer may pay something, but the issue is not who pays it, the issue is that all these losers get to have it.

@booger saidYes, the employees pay in money, but they also pay in money to the federal government in the form of taxes. So that tax money that they pay in is a source of the money that comes to them for free.

My position stands quite clearly, money comes from everywhere, and in this country, you can almost just found it on the street. Why work?

How?
How can a family of 4 get 108.000$ (a year, I presume) on benefits?
Nice of you (and perhaps your article) to state this, but how do they do that?
So many people in the US live in poverty, have to rely on soup kitchens, lose their homes, live in trailer parks… how does this family of 4 live like royalty without working?
How?
Without that properly explained, I will not accept the conclusion.
This will answer your question. Actually Washington State is handing out the most money, I think they kick Netherland ass.
Why don't you ever believe me?

Look. I want you to explain this to me.
You’ve brought the case. You’re defending the thesis. Don’t link me to information that you presume should detail this family’s exploits. You have to convince me that it is possible.
So, insurance aside…
They get 8000 a year unemployment benefit.
They get… what… 100.000 in food stamps or something?
Or is it to do with low income housing benefits? They get 50.000 a year to live in a house?
If this is true, why is anyone working.
Come on. Win me over. Explain it to me.
23 Dec 22
@shavixmir saidOK, this the most thorough treatment I could find. I don't pretend to explain it myself, but I think we give some credit to these guys who study this stuff. I believe them, I dont think they would put it out there only to be ridiculed.
Hopeless..
