OK, this the most thorough treatment I could find. I don't pretend to explain it myself, but I think we give some credit to these guys who study this stuff. I believe them, I dont think they would put it out there only to be ridiculed.
Please scroll down to the list of states, Washington being the worst.

That article’s title is very misleading. Isn’t it?

Basically, the article suggests that unemployment insurance “can” boost the income of unemployed people to x-amount for a period of 6 months.

Which, if you’re employed and you can afford insurance, is very much okay.
Because, you have a mortgage, a car, financial responsibilities, etc. And this gives you a 6 month period to get re-employed or sort your stuff out before you have to suddenly sell your house or stop paying the kid’s tuition fees, etc.

Every country has these sorts of mechanisms. If you don’t, then losing your job could destroy everything you’ve spent years building up.
It also puts people, because of that fear, at the mercy of the boss’ whims. And that, in itself, is unhealthy.

The exact mechanics aren’r explained. But the insurance system probably guarantees something like 70% of your last earned salary for 6 months. 50% for the next 6 months… things like that.

But it is not explained in the article.

The goobermint destroyed jobs, careers and dreams with the wuflu scam, then you want the goobermint to fix problems with more goobermint caused by too much goobermint.

All this majic money doesn't come from a majic wand, maybe the mortgage would have been paid off if people weren't paying so much tax/fines in the first place.

Every tax disincentivises. so when they disincentivise good things like going to work __________???

Try to fill in the blanks shag doody

You’re so pathetically Ayn Rand and Chicago boys, it’s pointless explaining anything to you.

You mention 'gives you a 6 month period', (who gives what?) and, the word 'guarantee'. You left out safety net!! Just how far should a govt get involved in someone's business, their finances, their poor choices.....their having to sell their home. It all sounds nice, but you come from government dependency, whatever, in nordic-land, and we just don't want that in the USA. We are just too large to ride bikes to work, such as that. And we have little restrictions, our constitution gives us great freedoms.
Remember, Shav. when we give up freedoms (become dependent) it never ever ever comes back. It does not come back. I personally cannot imagine cashing a govt check. Tell them to mind their own business, and leave us alone to do our business.
Just what are the mechanisms and guarantees. You are scaring me. But, Merry Christmas.!

Let’s say I haven’t. That is not germane to the issue, don’t you see. The issue is not about me, it is about the premise of work in all different facets of life.
No, the issue is, you have no idea what a working man's life is like, so your opinion doesn't matter.

All you've ever done is inherited your daddy's constructions business, and bossed the guys around who actually did the work. You've never done an honest day's work in your life, and it shows so badly it gives you sunburn. And all of us can tell. Joe: all of us can tell!

Why wouldn’t someone have any idea what a working man’s life is like?
Your second paragraph evidences some innate pent up problems of your own, it seems. My personal life has absolutely nothing to do with the issues at hand.
Get a grip. Comment on the issue perhaps?

Like, maybe comment on this, Shallow Blue. Freedom vs dependence, that sort of thing. No one gives a hoot what you think of me. Let us stipulate I have daddy’s money, then comment on the issue, which,,,,which,,,,is not about me,
Whew.

It’s in the bloody article you posted.

And what freedoms are being given up with a safety net.

Take health insurance. I pay it so that I don’t have to worry about any of that. I free up my time and mind to spend it in ways that I think are better for me.

That’s freedom. The freedom from stress and worry.

Well, you are not as much of an assshole as I previously said🙂 We can agree on THAT at least. But wages are up. I get $28/ hr at Infinera, putting together these optical fiber modulators able to take 64 very tiny diameter coax cables and combines all those signals to end up with one TRILLION bits per second over a single fiber, cost of the completed box, $70,000.
I am supposed to do 6 or 7 of them a day. Not back breaking work.

I get a total income if you called it hourly of about $45 an hour so close to 100K/yr total.

3 income streams.

SS just bumped up our bene's an extra 300 bucks a month so that will definitely help in future. $3600+ a year more.

The more one depends on government, the more the govt owns you, Shav. Taken to logical conclusion, one ends up relying on everything from the government,… the government thus owns that person. No Longer Do You Have Freedom.
Your insurance comment….. buying insurance, to be free of stress and worry, is voluntary, which government has nothing to do with. So we don’t get you there.

Well lets see about that gooment deal, I lose my job. I lose a thousand dollar a week job. I apply for unemployment, get maybe half of that for a few months. Yeah, going from 1 K a week to 0.5K a week is SO pleasant I would just lay back and party. But the deal ends in 6 months or so then you are back to ZERO.

Yep, a WONDERFUL way to live.

Again showing how you are a world class ASSSHOLE.

I do not get your point about unemployment programs, which is a positive government process. 6 months to gear up again. You seem to be dissing unemployment insurance?
