Its always politics with you. The fact of the matter is that they couldn't do it. I know you probably saw Demi Moore become a SEAL in the movies but, I want to stress that it was all make believe.

But what about Private Benjamin ... she did it ... surely that was real

"BENJAMIN!"

My knowledge of women in the military is confined entirely to my obsession with the terrorchicks in 24. Don't tell me assassins don't wear hotpants and denim mini-skirts, my consciousness will simply filter you out as an inconvenient detail.

Baloney; the fact of the matter is none have ever been allowed to try. A 100 years ago women were "psychologically unfit" to be doctors or lawyers according to the "accepted' wisdom; 50 years ago the few women who were police officers only did traffic control, etc. Old prejudices and stereotypes die hard, but eventually they do die. Let women freely compete for places in all those branches and some will make it; a few at the start but then in increasing numbers. The boys who run 'em are toooooooo afraid to let the gals try because they know in their black hearts that they would be proven wrong (and I don't watch Demi Moore movies where she isn't a lawyer or a stripper).

Maybe that sheriff in Atlanta should have been on traffic control instead of trying to guard that prisoner who took her pistol and shot up the place.

Who is being sexist? If the woman can't do the job due to her physical stature then why put her in that position. The idiots who put her on the guard detail against a former linebacker in other words a pretty big guy were to blame. That and the PC people. If you want to play lumberjack then you have to be able to carry your end of the log.

What a load; you responded to my comment that policewomen used to be only allowed to do traffic control by pointing out one incident where a criminal got a gun away from a woman police officer. Of course, there have been thousands of incidents where criminals got guns away from male police officers, too but you ignored that. The fact is that woman police officers are common now and do the same duties as male officers when 50 years ago that was unthinkable. They were given the chance and proved that they could do it. If they are ever given the chance to be Navy Seals or Army Rangers some will be able to do that, too. At least join the 20th century, if you can't quite make it to the 21st, Tex.

I'm a small woman and could not possibly undertake the physical demands of frontline action, BUT, there are woman out there who can easily outmatch any man in physical strength. Ever check out some of those women body builders? I think Women who have the skill and ability should have equal opportunities to persue a military career if they so chose to do so. Obviously physical strength is going to be a major factor, but I've seen some pretty "little" guys in the military too.
It's just discrimination plain and simple. Women do not need to be protected by men, We adapt and adjust to situations just as men do. It's society that holds these views and forces women to conform to them. I may be a tiny women but I'm still a good shot....with a .22 ....lol. Anything bigger I'm afraid of losing my shoulder!
