@divegeester saidIn the Netherlands everyone will be vaccinated by July.
And now the EU are lying about the UK and US banning exports of vaccine components.

The EU covid vaccine melt down continues.
Looks like the begin of May will be the turning point in most Western European countries.
Ahhh... a rustic drive through France... looking forward to it already. Cheese, wine, good food, warm weather...
You going to Blackpool? Eastbourne?
@shavixmir saidI think you may have spoken too soon with a possible third wave looming over Europe (and EU countries breaking rank to make side deals to hastily acquire more vaccines).

Let's see how the unity of the EU fares under the pressure, and tying into the title of the thread, if you will indeed envy Britain's maneuverability as an independent nation.
@ghost-of-a-duke saidNobody does.

As I’ve already pointed out, the EU ballsed up the vaccine business (actually, various EU countries undermined the pan-EU drive, but that’s an internal affair).
You don’t seem to comprehend how badly the UK is being damaged economically at the moment.
Anyhoo... have you started eating hake, lobster and shellfish yet? Better support that fishing industry before you have none left!

- ”The secretary general of the Social Democrat Party, a bitter election rival of Chancellor Merkel's CDU, announced that Germany should never have handed over power to the European Commission to purchase vaccines on its behalf. Vice-Chancellor Olaf Scholz reportedly described EU efforts as a horror show - and with even stronger words than that.”

”The internal figures were leaked as the EU was embroiled in a tit-for-tat with Boris Johnson over claims that the UK had an export ban in place. [however] A European commission spokesperson conceded on Wednesday that the UK had not imposed a ban, following the allegation made by the European council president, Charles Michel, on Tuesday.”

I hope things go well for you in the Netherlands.
My point here is the EU are utterly incompetent and this covid vaccination row will be another nail in its coffin.
@divegeester saidOne thing goes wrong and you deem it the end of civilization.

And one thing in the UK goed right and you see it as proof that Britannia will once again rule the waves.
Mhmmmm
@shavixmir saidGovernments and leaders will rise and fall on the back of public health management. The EU had one chance to get this right and they blew it; what my links show is a cascade of consequence from the EU’s incompetence over the single most important thing it had to do:
One thing goes wrong and you deem it the end of civilization.

- Financial Times - EU countries are now squabbling among themselves. and they will turn on the EU!
- Germany attacking its outgoing leader and the incompetence of the EU
- The EU U-turning after trying to pass the buck and falsely accuse the UK of blocking supplies of vaccine.
Bottom line; the EU is a half decent idea poorly executed but unfortunately for its member states, it is now in charge!
Thank god we’re as out as much as we can be.
Footnote.
The primary problem here is that the EU, the commission itself, has been insulated from taking accountability for ANYTHING for decades. So what happens when suddenly the leadership needs to step up and actually do something, chaos! Headless chickens!
The writing has been on the wall for a long time but the problem for the nation states is how to get out. Look at the crap the UK had to go through to get out and we are one of the biggest economic members.
@shavixmir saidAs a block, the EU is a powerful woolly mammoth, able to bulldoze its way successfully in many situations, such as trade. In contrast, the UK is a gazelle, lacking the bulk of the woolly mammoth but a much more agile entity.
Nobody does.

The future belongs to gazelles, not woolly mammoths. The UK will bounce back.

The post that was quoted here has been removedI have asked you twice already if you are immune to spelling mistakes and that if one is identified can you fairly be described as near illiterate?
Both times you have dodged the question, knowing as you do that you have made many such errors. (Usually blamed on your phone).
