Well, start with getting DVD versions of those movies.

There are special editions of several of them. I would suggestion ALWAYS getting wide screen (as full screen pan and scan tends to take away from the film).

If you're buying online - depend on where you are located - make sure you get the correct region encoding.

EDITED to Just list those I'd suggest getting (from my personal list of movies)

Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai, The
Akira : the special edition
Almost Famous - untitled
Apollo 13
Black and White
Blade Runner: The Director's Cut
Boogie Nights
Bridge On The River Kwai, The
Clerks. X
Commitments, The
Crow, The
Ghost World
Jaws
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
Jonny Quest : The Complete First Season
Jurassic Park
Ladyhawke
Lord Of The Rings, The: The Fellowship Of The Ring (special edition)
Lord Of The Rings, The: The Two Towers (special edition)
Near Dark
Pi
Princess Bride, The
Pulp Fiction
Reservoir Dogs
Saving Private Ryan
Se7en
Shindler's List
Speed Racer - Collector's Edition
Spider-Man: The '67 Collection
Star Wars Trilogy
Stunt Man, The
To Kill A Mockingbird
To Live And Die In L.A.
Trainspotting
Tron
X2 X-Men United
X-Men 1.5

Lord of the Rings, The Twin Towers extended version is worth getting, if only for the excellent extra about Gollum. Obviously, the movie is worth a watch as well. 😉

Contact - one of my earliest, and still favourite, DVDs.
Fight Club is also essential.

Do yourself a favor and get Memento.
Pretty unknown movie - but it's a got a great script with cool twists and brilliant cinematography.

One of my top 5.

Shaun Of The Dead isn't on DVD Robbo.

Get the essential Ingmar Bergman flick...The Seventh Seal, Knight moves with Christopher Lambert and The Luzhin Defense (John Turturro's best role).
For comedy get The Ren And Stimpy Show Uncut: Season 1 And 2 (3 disc).
For some great movies gety From Dusk To Dawn, Queen Of The Damned, Interview With A Vampire, Dracula 2000, Vampires, The Vampire Effect (aka The Twins Effect - more of a comedy)
Can you tell I like Vampire movies?

Brazil
A Knight's Tale
Pirates of the Caribean
The Life of Brian
The Thirty Nine Steps
Lawrence of Arabia
Subway
The Great Escape
Ghostbusters
Jaws
Alien (NOT the new director's cut: the first one is better)
An American Werewold in London
Blade Runner (Director's cut)
The Shawshank Redemption
One Flew Over The Cookoo's Nest
Blue Velvet
Toy Story / Finding Nemo
The Jungle Book
Jean de Florette / Manon des Sources
The Shining

and many many more...

There are all ones I'd watch a goodly number of times, as opposed to those that are just "great" films but would sit in a pile doing nothing.

Shaun Of The Dead will be released on December 21 2004. ASDA is a subsidiary of Walmart so I don't understand how they could sell it.

"Shooting the Past" by Stephen Poliakoff. [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0184157]

Although not necessarily well-known, it appeared on British television a few years ago and is now available on DVD. Largely flawless performances help to make it one of the few things that I would sincerely recommend to anyone.

I confess to not having seen anything else by Poliakoff though - is anybody familiar with the above and/or could recommend any other Poliakoff pieces?
