Hm, that depends. I don't think I would have been thrilled about the idea to be taken out by my brother.
A chess set sounds nice, assuming she either is into chess already or shows some interest in this kind of games. Not knowing her and her interests, it's difficult to give any tips.

what do you get a 13 year old girl for christmas (she's my sister, i'm not a peadophile. well, not on tuesdays anyway...) that isn't a CD or computer game or DVD?
