As one of Red Hot Pawn's first members since February, 2001, you would certainly be in a position to make an assessment of this forum. Thank you.
I have seen the RHP forum in its complete evolution, from not having one at all to what we have right now.
My opinion of the GF is exactly that, MY opinion. Do other members share that opinion? I don't know.
Am I being pompous? I thought I was just being "honest" with my opinion but you can describe it however you want Redbadger. It is what it is.
I just looked at the 'most active player' table and it shows that 12,545 members have made at least one move in the past 100 days.
I wonder how many have taken a look at any of the forums.
Someone with time on their hands could put together some statistics.
What do RHP members actually do while visiting the site?
Which forums do they visit?
Which forums have the most activity on a daily basis?
Didn't you undertake such a project in the past GB? Something similar anyway?

We all seem to take the internet and social media for granted theses days, perhaps forgetting that it is still quite a young phenomena. Facebook was only 10 years old last year for an obvious example.

"That is correct..."
Thanks for this confirmation which you're uniquely qualified to provide. With respect to your questions I'd defer to the following statement regarding the intended purpose of these public forums:
"The forums are the core of the 'Red Hot Pawn' community. Feel free to just read, but please consider posting a comment. Most posts will develop into a conversation (called a 'thread' ), so be sure to check back and follow up on any of your earlier posts." ~Russ

Yes, it was a comparison of page one threads for several months a year ago which revealed that this forum surprisingly ranked third to the Spirituality and Debates Forums. Since I've focused my time and energy on initiatives which would hopefully support the purpose described by Russ.

Have always been of the opinion that the pompous porpoise did it on purpose.
1) What did it do "on purpose"? 2) While doing the nefarious deed was this pusillanimous creature wearing ocean blue plaid pajamas or a lovely sea green nightgown or perhaps a lacey peignoir woven with fine silk threads of pale pink and hideous puce? 3) What was its motive? lol

I was looking for a website that offered online chess games and it came up with RHP as one option. I saw that it was only correspondence chess rather than live but that was OK with me. I just mainly wanted to play against real people instead of chess game software. I had tried postal chess very briefly and was totally disappointed with that experience, but thought it might be better with online correspondence chess.
I went ahead and opened an account here and soon discovered that it was a very new site and that I was one of the first members. I was the 16th member and my first game was only the 18th game played here. Out of the first 16 members, some of those were actually 'dummy' accounts set up by Russ and Chris to help them test out the site.
(NO, I'm not a dummy account too !)
Originally posted by mwmillerCoincidentally, the same year you happened upon RHP, i also did a engine search for online chess, and ended up joining another chess site. (Where i stayed for over 14 years). That particular site had only been up and running for a few months and it wasn't long before i became an admin and was losing to the webmaster in person over coffee. (Fate had placed us both near Barnet). That site today is hardly recognizable.

As an aside, i can't look at your username without visualizing Windy Miller. Ah, childhood memories.

After being a subscriber for 5+ years, I decided to check out the forums. It has been one month.
Conclusion: Hanging out in here is neither a productive use of my time nor is it any fun, so much to the sadness of many of you, lol, I'm done. I much prefer chess where I have played and chatted with hundreds of players. And along the way, have met so ...[text shortened]... st to me at this very moment -lol - actually ESPECIALLY to those people 😉
Back to chess....!
