I'd post this in the help forum... but people are more likely to reply in here 😀

So... how far does "consulting a third party" go? Obviously, asking someone which move would be best would be against the ToS. But... if I have a game in progress and am wondering if I should offer a draw or try to win it-would outside advice on that be considered cheating, even when it's a yes/no answer?

I'm afraid so, Angie. Any outside help (obviously excluding books) which could affect the result of the game is a nono.

This is true. Any help other than a book or database is che@ing.

Maybe you could suggest to your friend that they perhaps should write a book using that exact position to help you decide your next move. 😛

You seem irate. Are you Angie's opponent in the game she is referring to?

I think asking your "Magic 8-ball" whether you should accept a draw would be allowable outside help.

I ask my cat for move advice all the time, though he just looks at me with disgust, like the best move is obvious to anyone with a brain.

Hmmmm, food for thought. Can we consult the "spirit" world? Maybe hold a séance and call upon the ghosts of past champions?

I wouldn't consider the 8-ball much help. 😉

The cat, however, is che@ing.

Hmmm...

Books
Database
Tarot Cards
Magic 8-balls
coin flips
dead relatives
cats
dogs
parots

but please don't consult chess playing monkeys....
