Originally posted by Sam The ShamI myself fail to see why it is supposedly inappropriate, seems like quite a reasonable topic to discuss on a general forum such as this one, sure, wouldn't be appropriate in the chess forum itself, but nevertheless, this is not the chess forum, it is general.
Didn't say he was. Still inappropriate, you don't bring up sexual orientation on a chess site, that sort of thing isn't discussed. DO...YOU....UNDERSTAND....NOW?
Originally posted by Sam The ShamNo. I can't see how it's more inappropriate than bringing up someone's nationality, gender, interests etc. It seems quite normal to me to try to find people who have something in common with you.

As far as I can tell, everyone who has posted before me has missed the point. Maybe they haven't. But here's the thing - if it's chess you want to play, who gives a s*omething* about your sexuality? Stop being a moron - play chess, or go to a pick up site. Make a choice.

Originally posted by highflier934OK fine, if you're comfortable with someone asking if anyone likes to play butt darts in a venue like this, go with it, be free. Have fun. That's my opinion.

For the record I am too old to be gay or straight, but my affiliations have always been straight; however, since this is the general forum, I think and would defend anyones right to ask for sexually similarly oriented people on the site. Come on. Homophobic is a very explicit word. Fear is the defining aspect of the word. As has been proven down through the annals of history; homosexuality is not something to be feared. So be mature and rational in asserting you positions. We can all find things to take exception to.
