All cat people spew this nonsense. It is how you justify living with cats. "Oh, dogs only love you for food...dogs poop all over, blah, blah, blah."
Dogs do not love you for food, not that alone, really. They love you because you are their Master. You feed them, house them, love them, teach them and entertain them. They will protect you, if necessary. ...[text shortened]... the other hand, I'm not sure what their charm is but I'm sure someone here can elaborate.
I thought we were talking about BIG CATS here, so I was ready with a photo from the zoo today.

Just for future reference, ya know.
I own both, or should I say I own 2 dogs and am shared by 6 cats. My dogs love me in part because it is imprinted on their DNA to be part of a social group. Cats on the other hand are by nature loners. Whith the exception of lions, almost all memebers of the cat family seldom seek out the companionship of others of their own kind, save for mating purposes. However the common house cat is is the exception in that it will live out its life alone or seek the comfort of a clowder. Sometimes that clowder may be their people and the mixture of house hold pets that they live with. So the social befriending of a cat, at least to me, is a gift and not the fulfilling of a "DNA programing" like my dog has. I still love my dog and I'm sure she loves me but my cats seem to have a little more choice in the matter.

Why snakes are better than dogs/cats:
10. No jumping on the furniture or counters.
9. No barking.
8. No guests whining that they're allergic to your pet.
7. Economical to feed.
6. Snakes don't need to be boarded or pet-sat when you go on vacation.
5. If you forget to feed a snake, no big deal. They can wait.
4. Since they only eat about once or ...[text shortened]...
2. Snakeskin is a good rodent deterrent.
1. Handling dogs doesn't prove you love Jesus.
