It just shows human nature at its best, the first thing to do when you get political freedom is to make sure you get more free stuff than your neighbour! Capitalism is on the way to Iraq.

More than two decades of brutal oppression and ethnic cleansing !!! I say they deserve to loot....the palaces and federal buildings were built with their blood and money anyway......like Basra I think the military will step in once the locals have time to vent their frustrations. Let's hope it doesn't get out of hand. I'm more concerned about the situation in the Congo, estimates of over a million dead in the past few months....and again the UN sits on its hands??!!! You'd think if France, Germany, Russia, Canada(ashamed to say) stayed out of the Iraq conflict they find some way to at least intervene in the Congo slaughter.....or are they waiting for the US/Britain/Spain etc to step up to the plate again?? Perhaps they're just waiting for 6 months or so like in Yugoslavia till the death toll climbs a little higher.

And of course the war in the congo could also lead to the extinction of the gorilla in the wild which would be equally tragic

No I am serious, the current war in Congo could lead to the extinction of the Gorilla. There is a large national park on the border of Rwanda and Congo where the mountain gorillas live, due to the war the park wardens have lost control of the park to rebel forces and the poachers have moved in. Zoo's will pay up to $20,000 for a baby gorilla which is a lot of money if you are living in that kneck of the world!

who are they looting from? The palaces or their neighbor who's worked hard to get what he has, and will likely starve with his family now that he has lost it. I'll bet for every person out there looting there 5 cowering in their homes, afraid of the looters, afraid of the soldiers of both sides...

And don't forget what the "liberation" has cost. If you've got the stomach visit www.sfgate.com/columnists/morford/. I warn you, some of the picture you can link to are deeply upsetting, but I think necessary to show what the war has cost, and is still costing, these "liberated" people.

And has this little show of force agains a country that never stood a chance of standing up to you (it spend less than 1% of the US budget on defence) has been worth it. Making the world afraid of you, and I do mean the world and not just the middle east, isn't going to make you safer. I bet efforts of the countries next on Bush's list are trying to get WMD now, not getting rid of them.

I'm glad Saddam has gone. I will never agree with the way it was done. The next big test is how will the US carve up Iraq? It surely has an obligation to clear up the mess it has left behind, but if it fills that void with US companies and puppet govenments then its motives for the war will be very questionable again.

don't forget that they have to kill the mother, and any other gorillas that stick around, to get the baby. And you can't really blame the poachers, because it's like being offered a lottery win and do they really understand extinction?

Should zoos be banned? I think they should at least have their supply of animals more tightly controlled (eg. injured animals who either can't survive in the wild or are on the way to recovery).

I saw an interiview with a guy who had looted a computer printer. The journalist asked him what he had. He said he didn't know but it was his. Then, there was another guy pulling a generator behind a dumptruck, without wheels or a trailer.
