Hi all, so Sunday we took our grandaughter out to buy school shoes. We used my card to buy them. My wife did not use her card to the same account (debit card, we are the only ones on the account and we each have our own card with different #'s)

Wells Fargo bank. It seems someone withdrew $80 from an ATM at our home bank using her card and pin # from our own hometown bank. The problem is she did not withdraw money that day, she was with me all day and the only money we spent was on my card.

So I file a fraud complaint with the bank. They refuse to do anything about it, it's not fraud they said. No indication of fraud. I said yes there is, I'm TELLING you there was fraud, we were gone all day Sunday.

Ukfay uyae basically was their response and that was after talking to the third person, a quote 'resolution specialist'.

They said I would have to get a subpoena to get a view of that image. I can't frigging believe it. It is our own frigging account and they won't let us see who it was used that card or if it was some kind of duplicate done by a con man or woman.

I don't know how to proceed, except to go to the cops, write my congressman or something.

Any ideas? Any legal moves available here to get them to fork over the image from that transaction?

I felt like they were treating me like I was the one defrauding them, fell very abused by their system. It makes me seriously want to cancel all our accounts there and go to another bank, but don't know if the rules are any different anywhere else.

Look forward not backwards and control the things you can control.

Close the account immediately and get a new banker. Move it all. It is only $80 - you could have lost a lot more and the bank is going to lose a lot more than $80 in future business.

Also please feel free to tell everyone you know what a crappy bank they are and when you withdraw all your money be sure to ask for the manager and let him/her know that you will tell everyone you meet how they screwed you.

Maybe look at a credit union. Our credit union would never hang us out to dry like that.

Get ahold of the main office. Call the cops too. There is good evidence there has been a crime comitted.

I just did the cop thing, he wanted a printout, I do a lot of online banking and a lot of my money runs through that bank, about 69,000 bucks a year actually. Don't know if that is enough to raise anyone at the bank but I am thinking seriously about shifting to another bank. The credit union thing sounds like a good idea.

We already cancelled that card so if it was a real fraud, like some kind of electronic scam, they won't have that card to scam anymore. You are right, it is a rather small amount but I don't like getting scammed. It is leaving me a bit short till friday, it cost's me about 20 bucks a day just for gas to drive to work and I only have about 50 bucks left in the account till payday.

wells fargo has that kinda reputation...
most large banks do...

first, file a police report, and let them do their jobs...
it is THEY, not you, who needs to go to the bank and get the video records of that transaction...

second, like mercurial, i would yank my money outta that bank, pronto...
deal with a locally owned bank, or, better yet, a credit union...

third, you may hope, but, that money is a lesson being taught...
sorry for yer loss...

Murcurial hit it on the head, be sure to let them know why you'll be taking your business elsewhere and you'll be spreading the word. I can't believe with the cameras they won't first refund the money and pursue the criminal. For all they know YOU might recognize the person and shed some light on the subject if they can't figure it out.

Word of mouth is the best advertising, but it can also lose you a lot of business if your crummy with your customers. Might be an idea to file with the BBB also.

The loss is minimal but I would like to see the image of the person who withdrew the cash. It could be my son or his gf, if it is, there will be consequences, considering they are living both of them and their progeny, at our house rent free....

Here is another trick my son pulled: Borrowed my wife's card, took out DVD's at redbox, the kiosk they stick in Turkey hills and so forth. So far I have about $75 in charges on that deal, they didn't know Redbox charges $1.20 a day late fee for DVD's and 2 bucks a day late fee for video games. So they have been consistently late and I am stuck with the bill, till I can get the bucks off them which may be never.
I thought I had a lot more money in the bank till those deals showed up. I would have had a couple hundred which would certainly have held us off till friday, now I have to depend on a small stash of cash I stuck in my wallet for just such occasions.

"Borrow" his bestest game system, pawn it at the pawn shop, give him the pawn ticket and say, "Good luck with that."
It might be time for tuff luv dad.

Edit: You might have to fill him in on the deal or the "borrowing" will be theft. 😞

I wish I knew how. He is developmentally delayed WAY delayed, 23 yo with the reading ability of a 3rd grader and cannot count money well. There is no place for him to go if we just kick him out. The county, city, state, feds offer no help. He needs to be in an assisted living situation but I cannot do it forever, my wife is very ill and getting worse by the week.

It's a bad situation.

We adopted a set of twins, him and his brother, identical twins, half Columbian, half Puerto Rican, their mom was a prostitute and drug addict and they were born addicted to cocain and heroin which tore out chunks of their brains. We did the best we could for them, continual interventional education all the way through HS which they graduated from but barely.

He can't keep a job and we don't know what to do, we won't live forever and they could not keep the house even if it were fully paid off since just the taxes are $5000 a year and they get 500 bucks a month in SS disability with little prospect for anything more.

We sent letters, plural, to Dr Phil but got no response, zero, not even a thank you for the letter but we have people more in need, not even that.

We need help in many ways but to no avail.

I am hard pressed to pay the bills even though I have a family income of nearly $70k a year.

If we died they would be forced into the streets and there is nothing we can do about that.

Wow man, talk about a full plate. It's good of you to be so generous to so many loved ones. I'm sorry to hear about your wife too.
Forget the pawn shop.

Dude... you are one amazing dude. ( You all are ) . And you give us so many little glimpses into your amazing life.
All these glimpses have so many lessons , especially when coupled with other insights.
You have been through it all with 70 years under your belt, and all I can offer is that if you do your best , (which you seem to ), then everything will work itself out, here and in the "afterlife". (afterlife for your children and grandchildren )

Keep doing what you are doing. It's inspiring all the way around the world. Thnx 🙂
