I guess you could, but I think by situations they mean real-life situations, like, say... Homer blowing the Christmas money at the track, rather than say... Being rolled up in a cigarette or used as a pool ball.

I don't know if I agree with your opinion but I don't get all the hype for "Seinfeld". Just like I don't get the hype of reality TV either.
