I hate him, he sucks.

While we are about it, I hate The Beatles too who have done more to engender generic pop trash than any other band in the second half of the twentieth century.
congratulations, we agree...
as far as Englkish Rock, i prefer Pink Floyd and the Stones...
Queen and old Black Sabbath is good as well...
but the Beatles...
let's just say i'm not a Lennon-more-popular-than-jesus fan

But, I wonder if those bands would ever have existed had it not been for the Beatles. I think not, at least not in the same form. They would probably be skiffle combos [or whatever they were called] like Lonnie Donnegan - lol.

Even if you don't like their music, they deserve credit where credit is due!

No offence meant to LD fans 😕

It's between Mr Tamourine Man and Positively 4th Street for me.

i'm sorry, but I see no connection between The Beatles, who wrote against the War in Vietnam, and Pink Floyd whose Wall album was an attack on British society and government...
Pink Floyd was the far superior band who furthered Rock as a whole with Wish you were Here, The Wall, and the most famous, The Dark Side of the Moon album

It's interesting that 40 years later Dylan can still engender such controversy.
I think that fact in itself says a lot for his staying power. One of my personal favorites is Spanish Boots of Spanish leather and the version I like best is the one sung by Nanci Griffith but Dylan's version is pretty good too.
I also like A hard rain's a gonna fall. That is an example of his poetry at its best IMHO.

This is too hard. I guess my favourite among his albums are "Bringing It All Back Home" and "Desire", though.

Maggie's Farm for me. The accidental associations with Thatcherism help it along.

Suprisingly, I had never made that connection. Thank you 🙂

I didn't say there was a connection as such - nor was I saying one was better than the other [in fact I prefer Pink Floyd] but that without the Beatles' pioneering work many of the others wouldn't even have existed.

Probably.

Whatever their political views were is irrelevant. 🙄

re: Dylan.

There's just so many great songs by him or covered by others.

These are some I like:

Mr. Bojangles
I Shall Be Free
Bear Mountain Picnic
Isis
[and Spanish Boots, as mentioned above too]

All along the Watchtower/Hendrix
Mighty Quinn/Manfred Mann
several by the Byrds

Yeah Hurricane, giving a triple-murderer the notoriety to be released from prison, that was a great piece of work by Dylan. The movie was a great piece of fiction, also. Hurricane Carter was a violent psychopath from the age of ten with a lifelong history of assaulting people, the first thing he did when he got out of prison was beat a woman senseless that had been working for his defense. What a sweet guy. The Canadians can have him.

Dylan is god and if I wanted to give my top 3 it would change every week!

Currently I would say:

1 Joey
2 Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again
3 Tangled up in Blue

knockin on heaven's door
and that's a stretch
apologies to Dylan fans, but his voice is just terrible and the quality of his song writing is often over-inflated...
Seger was a poet, as was Waters (Pink Floyd)
Dylan has the voice of a sick dog with a dry mouth
I give Knockin' on Heaven's Door because it allowed GnR to redo it and make it awesome...
so, I give Dylan credit for writing that song so GnR could pick it up and make it a great song
