I disagree. Because if you use what as a noun, that means that the statement is not a question, because a question by definition is expectant of a reply, and that statement would become a simple declarative. Thus, no question exists, and you have a slight paradox.

Not really, since there is no question mark on the sentance, which makes it a simple statement.

But if it is a statement, then it can't be a question, so how can an answer exist without the question?

With the direction this has taken, perhaps it would be better suited for the puzzlers thread?
