Would there be enough interest in a culture forum to trouble the owners of the site about it? A forum like, say, sports, but where the discussions are centred on movies, literature, art, music, opera, poetry - whatever floats your boat in a cultural sense? A forum where such things can be discussed away from the mindless inanity here at GF? I have no pro ...[text shortened]... e, but i'm hoping (against hope) there might actually be some support for something like this.
Originally posted by NordlysSame here. I think a culture forum would be a great addition. It might help draw out more people, and get some interesting discussions going. Most people seem to respect the sports forum (and/or other specialty forums) and keep unrelated topics out of it. I'm sure most people don't know about The Enemy, and even if they did (and were able to join), it could only accommodate 20 people.
I see your point, and being a member of The Enemy, I am quite happy with the current state of affairs. But that's just because I was lucky enough to hear about The Enemy and be able to join. Most people probably don't know about that clan at all, and some may know about it, but not be able to join, either because they already are in four clans or because they aren't subscribers. I think a public culture forum would be worth trying.

I tend to like the idea of some kind of culture forum but there would have to be one for each art form, music, literature, art, etc., and I don't think that's practical. However, I fear it would degenerate into the same kind in inanities as on GF, with many people spouting off an uninformed and nonsensical opinion.
I shudder when I hear someone say, "I don't know much about that but I know what I like." Well, no they don't, and what's worse, is that they don't even realize it. And then they spout off even more trying to justify their non existant opinion.
And then there are those who subscribe to the opinion of the Nazi propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels. ("When I hear the word, 'culture,' I reach for my revolver."๐ Such a forum would attract those types. On second thought, perhaps a culture forum isn't such a good idea.

i think theres enough uselss forums allready,
honestly, how many new posts about cultural stuff you think there will be made a day? one? a half? 1/7th after a while?
you can make cultural posts in this ''general'' forum, if some1 posts something negative witch has totaly nothing to do with the subject you could let a mod look at it/delete it. But ofcourse ...[text shortened]... negative feelings for the subject your posting. like i have right now for a cultural forum๐

and speaking of speaking of things about which we know little:
"Whenever I hear the word 'culture' I reach for my revolver."
The actual quote is "Wenn ich Kultur höre ... entsichere ich meinen Browning". Which translates as: "Whenever I hear [the word] 'culture'... I remove the safety from my Browning!"
This quote is often mistakenly attributed to leading Nazi Hermann Goering, or occasionally to Julius Streicher, a lower-ranking Nazi. This misattribution may date from the famous Frank Capra documentaries (Why We Fight) shown to American troops before shipping out.
In fact, it's a line uttered by the character Thiemann in Act 1, Scene 1 of the play Schlageter, written by Hanns Johst. The association with Nazism is appropriate, as the play was first performed in April 1933, in honor of Hitler's birthday.
Baldur von Schirach, head of the Hitlerjugend, delivered this sentence in a public speech, circa 1938. A footage of the scene, with von Schirach actually drawing his gun, appears in Frederic Rossif's documentary "from Nurnberg to Nurnberg".
Notes: It's possible that this is actually a rather more felicitous phrase in translation than it is in the original. Both the original German and this more elegant English translation were juxtaposed by Howard Thomas in his review of an article by Nicholas H Battey in the Journal of Experimental Biology, December 2002, as "the famous words of Hanns Johst: 'Wenn ich Kultur höre ... entsichere ich meinen Browning' - 'Whenever I hear the word culture, I reach for my revolver.'"
The phrase itself may be a play on words as the word Browning may refer to both a pistol and the English poet Robert Browning.
Additionally it should be noted that a Browning (most likely the M1935 High-Power) is not a revolver, but a magazine-fed semi-automatic pistol.

can't really see the point of that quote at the end of your post, sorry.
