So, anyone else see it? Really enjoyed the whole show. Stephen Fry's reaction was superb 😀
Quick question: What did Derren Brown say right at the end of the programme, right at the end of his explanation of his performance against the chess players where the sentence went:
"As for how ... ... ... ... ... ... well I really can't remember". M'lady started gabbling and I missed what he said, can anyone fill in the ...s?

PS: Thanks to Jay Peatea - I'd have missed the prog. if you hadn't have posted saying it was on 🙂

The only bit of the show I caught was the chess bit. It was clever how he beat half of them.
It was something like and as for how I predicted the number of pieces left on each board I can't remember.
4 wins (2 against grandmasters) 3 losess & 2 draws, although I was a bit disapointed as it occured to me sometime ago that the same method could be used here to boost one's rating (not that I would of course). I won't say what it is as i don't want to give anybody any ideas! His prediction of the number of pieces was impressive, also I liked the taxi stunt!

Anyone know how he did the pieces left prediction?

[For those who didn't see the show - Derren Brown set up a simul involving 9 matches against some quality opposition made up of IMs and GMs (some rather handy UK players like Chris Ward, Julian Hodgson, Graham Lee). He ended up with 4 wins, 3 losses and 2 draws by essentially playing 4 of them off against another 4 without them realising and then beating the weakest player there (President of the Chess Society at King's College, London or some such blokey, am not sure how he beat him to be honest). Essentially then, a feat of memory by going around from board to board and ultimately matching black on board 1 with white on board 5 and white on board 2 with black on board 6 and so on. The real mind-boggler is that before the matches he gave one of them an envelope containing the following number: 61181334910 (or whatever it actually was). After the matches it was discovered that on board 1 his opponent had 7 pieces left, on board 2 his opponent had 11 pieces left, on board 3: 8, on board 4:13, on board 5: 3, on board 6: 3, on board 7: 4, on board 8:9 and on board 9 his opponent had 10 pieces left. Put 'em together and you get 71181334910 (the mistake coming on the first board but otherwise correctly predicted)]

Maybe he got the idea from our Posers and Puzzles forum where a similar problem was set a few months ago regarding how a weak player could get such results.
Dunno about the number of pieces left on the board though!

the only bit that shocked me was the pieces left prediction. the bit about playing one off against the other was BS. i expected more from him than an age old plan.
first time i came across it was years ago in this movie where there were 2 GM's on a ship and this women played one off against the other.
he has to be a good player though, unless the asain guy he beat was a fraud.
