I own a small flooring company near London and a very professional website has appeared on the internet for my company. I have never had a website made neither has anyone in my firm i no this for a fact . This must of cost someone a lot of money to put online. The colour theme to the website is all wrong but apart from that its very good. It has my correct address and telephone number so I know for sure it’s my company. How is this possible? Can I edit this website in anyway?

Need a bit more information. Are you sure that site is *specifically* for your company or just gives a load of flooring companies in the area (a kind of directory service)?

If it has been specifically been developed for your company you can find out the domain name registrar by doing a WHOIS lookup (http://www.whois.net/). You should then be able to get the details of who is hosting the site and ask them for more information.

You cannot edit the pages unless you have access to the web server that the site is stored in.

Edit: A better site to look up will be http://whois.domaintools.com/ as it will find .co.uk domains as well.

I have always been on a few directory services online and that is it. Now this website is an actual website and yes it’s specifically for my company thats why I am so confused. It has my address even my unit number and correct telephone number but like I said its not my company colours but its very professional explaining exactly the services that we offer and how to contact us for your dream flooring. Yes i need to find out who created this website so how do i go about that then? Have you ever heard anything like this before. My company is nto big so i no none of my staff have done this i have checked that already. This would cosst moeny to wouldnt it.

it's a scam, how it works it that people log onto my site thinking it represents your company, they send me money for a job/product they want want you to do/supply. good luck with that...

Perplexing to be sure, Chessmatter. Wish I could be of assistance but am totally lacking in technical savvy and skills. Confident a few knowledgeable RHP Members will soon come to your rescue and provide practical direction to resolve the issue. Meanwhile, your initial post brings to mind a quote I noticed recently: “The Internet is the first thing that humanity has built that humanity doesn't understand, the largest experiment in anarchy that we have ever had.” ~Eric Schmidt, Google CEO

Yell Ltd -- I think that's the Yellow Pages. Just call them up and find out what happened...

That's quite strange.

The only possible reason I can think of someone to do that is so they can use it to make advertising revenue from the web traffic that visits the site.

Have you got any registered copyrights or trademarks for your company - ie: names, logos, etc... If so you can threaten the site owner with legal action if they don't remove your details or give you control of the site.

Can you post a link to the site here? I'd like to see what they've done.

Appreciate your intent to help, DS, but aren't you inadvertly requesting

considerable public disclosure of highly personal/business information?
