I'm quite in favour of canabis legalisation apart from the following:
Canabis is addictive. It's way less addictive than nicotein or cocain or alcohol but it's possible to get hooked. I don't know whether it's psychological addiction or physical addiction but I've seen friend who can't live without it and turn quite angry if deprived for any time. One in particular has had his life wrecked. Get stoned, but know the risks.
smoking it'll give you cancer just as cigarettes will but faster because you don't use a filter + canabis adds a bit of toxisity too. You could try eating it but I'm not sure if it's carcinogenic by this route or not.
being stoned & driving is certainly not a good idea, and at the moment I don't know of tests to allow stonedness to be monitored. We could go back to the old 'walk this line' tests (or maybe 'walk this line without eating this cookie or giggling'π but I'm not sure that still holds water in court.
Lastly, stoned people at work would increase the prison population dramatically, because I'd kill people from frustation. And I bet I wouldn't be the only one. Why? A little example of a conversation I had with a desk clerk at a hostel in Amsterdam, who gave to me a whole new level of meaning to the term 'burnt out':
Me - I'd like a room with 4 beds, or 2 with 2 please
Clerk- when for?
M - tonight and tomorrow
C - how many beds do you want?
M - 4 please
(takes out log book)
C - I don't have any 4 bed rooms left
M - do you have and 2 bed rooms?
(refers to log book)
C - yes
M - can I have 2?
C - when for?
M - tonight and tomorrow night
C - how many beds?
M - 4 please
(refers to log book)
C - I don't have any 4 bed rooms left
M - how about 2 2 bed rooms?
C - for which nights?
M - tonight and tomorrow night please
C - how many beds did you want?
.......
And yet if they ever find the body they'll call me the criminal!!!
Weed is so addictive. I used to smoke 1-3 joints a day for at least seven years. It made my memory deteriorate and my mind slower. Thankfully it did not affect me as much as it did some of my high school friends who are now raging coke fiends and hooked on injecting prescription drugs. But we all know it's a gateway drug (for most), right?
Moderation is the key and if you can handle it (like I can now only because my live-in girlfriend never smokes it) then shine on you crazy diamond! If you're a brainless hippy with smoke coming out your ears then you are a drain on society. That's my opinion.
"Professor Robin Murray, who is leading the study, said his view of the drug had changed in recent years. He used to be sceptical when cannabis was blamed. 'Relatives would say "It seems to be the cannabis that makes my son or daughter or brother psychotic" and I would say, "Oh, they're being hysterical, they're just trying to look for something to blame". We've come to realise that it does have a significant effect, but it has taken us a long time to wake up to this."
"Cliff Prior, chief executive of Rethink, a charity helping those with mental illness, said: 'The public needs to understand that this danger is real. There is growing evidence that cannabis may trigger schizophrenia in vulnerable people."

Alcohol is a far, far more powerful and dangerous drug than THC. If weed is illegal, alcohol should be too. I personally don't think they should be illegal.
If that sunrise was perfect sobriety, then any drug is the perfect drug...for that one part of that one trip where the experience was total bliss. No matter how good a moment of sobriety can be, sobriety as a whole is imperfect.

There was no noise, the storm had disappeared and it was just me and this amazing moment in time. I'm not a religious guy but the term "The Hand of God" ran through my mind.

Personally, I think cannabis should be legalised/decriminalised. A proviso that I'd put on that is that the No sale to Under 18 is very strictly adhered to.
Also, I'd try (and fail) to get rid of all hydroponic weeds, like Super skunk, which are potently strong, are full of chemicals from the hydro setup and, I believe can lead to mental disorders. If the world stuck to bush weed, we'd have a lot less paranoia going on.
=D
Originally posted by belgianfreakThe weed itself isn't carcinogenic. You're right about the non-use of filters speeding up cancer, but wrong about the weed adding toxisity. All smoke is carcinogenic. Cigarettes extremely so due to all chemicals that the manufacturers put in. Weed smoke, while being carcinogenic, is nowhere near as bad as cigarettes. No way would u get cancer due to ingesting weed.

As for the driving, I believe I am 10 times safer when I drive a wee bit stoned. Firstly, I rarely go over 40mph. And secondly, there is no way in hell that I pass out when I'm stoned.
You meet some funny characters in the Dam alright, but a lot of that is due to the potency of the stuff they have over there. You may as well be taking a trip every day as smoke a few j's of White Widow.

And by the way, as a pot-smoker myself, I feel NO need to have Marijuana decriminalized in Canada. It will only increase the price and lower the quality. I have no problems getting my hands on it so for dirt cheap so why should I care if it's legal or not? I can walk down Queen Street (in Toronto) smoking a joint and no one even looks twice. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
That's for Canada, whereas in the States, it is very different. Thousands of people rotting in jail cells for smoking joints. Now that's pathetic.

You could have a thousand of those sunrises in your lifetime and never have any negative side effects. There's not really a drug you can say that for.
How much do you reckon you have to smoke to get well stoned?
The reason I ask is, I used to partake every now and then. But I found I'd get a brief rush of lightheadedness which wore off after about 5 mins. Thing is, I got that effect with tobacco too (I always smoked the dope with baccy).
So, I tried chain-smoking joints (a friend who is a regular dopehead was rolling them, so I assume they were normal strength). Same thing, after a few mins, the effects wore off.
So I stopped bothering because it just didn't seem very good.
The couple of times I ate some though, was a whole different story - full blown tripping, but with some paranoia which I didn't like so I didn't do that many times either.
Stick to booze - it's great! And I've never been violent through it π

Bake it in a space cake.
