Yes that's the way. Ok people, let's make this quick. Everyone who likes me line up on the left. Those that don't can move to the right. Alright, get cracking.

Why?? Don't ask stupid questions mate, you're holding up the line. No no, I don't want you on the left anymore *applies boot to backside*.

A third option? Sorry, can't you remember George Bush's speech? You're either with us or against us, remember? .....Who's George Bush??? You don't know who bloody George Bu...benefit of the doubt Dylan, benefit of the doubt. Ok, ok, where are you from? A remote village in China? The North Pole? New Zealand? AMERICA?!?! Ok that's it, to the right with you! .....Oh dear god, THIS ONE IS YOUR RIGHT *waves right hand*.

Ok, everyone through? Excellent. Now, are there any questions?

Why did I bother doing this? Well I ..err.. don't really know. I was going to start a thread on sport but then I got a tad side tracked, suddenly felt dreadfully alone and insecure and then...*coughs uncomfortably* Right, no more questions! On with the sport.

The Sport

I thought it was about time someone started a sports thread again.

The Rugby World Cup is only a month or so away. The Davis cup (Tennis) down here in Melbourne has reached the final stages, and there have been some excellent matches played so far. This is also the most exciting time of the year for the Rugby League world, though I guess nobody here would care about that. The..um…Soccer is soccering along nicely…presumably. Perhaps something terrific has happened in the Grid Iron world? What about Golf? Anyone here like Golf? No? Never mind then. How about Cricket? It’s not really the season for it but maybe somewhere in the world… Lawn bowls? Croquet? Is Train Spotting a sport?

Well I tried. I’ll be in my room if anyone needs me.

I feel your frustration. I have it too, but for different reasons. I can't believe that the US is still pandering to world opinion. Getting rid of bad guys should not involve those who are indifferent to it. It breaks our hearts to see Bush pandering to an organization comprised of murderers, dictators and fools. (speaking of the UN here)

We have long known that we have a "devils choice". We can overlook the potential for evil that totalitarianism brings, or we can intervene and kill the bad guys. In Herr Hitlers case, the world chose to let him do his thing. In Saddaam's case we decided to kill the bastard.

I hate the death and suffering. On all sides. I hate the fact that we create 10 terrorists with every one we kill. But that is the way WE KNEW IT WOULD BE. There is nothing going different from the plan. The world is at the stage where this is the natural course of events. Better to not repeat the mistakes of the past and try something new... ie, active war and killing as an intervention method.

As I have stated before, we are damned in doing this because we have changed history. We will never know "what might have been" because of the intervention. One has to ask... "What would have happened if we had taken Germany in 35' the way we just did Iraq?"

If it makes you feel any better... my side... the pro-kill-saadaam-at-any-cost side are miserable too. Nobody is happy on this issue. I can't even feel any anger at you or those who oppose the war. It's a moral crap shoot... damned if you do and damned if you don't. The sad thing is that some on my side view people against the war as being FOR THE TERROR AND TORTURE that Sadaam has generated for the past decades. The logic is that "No Action against evil is IMPLIED OR TACIT support of evil.", assuming one has the ability to fight it. I know you are not. But when push comes to shove... To Quote Bush...

"You are for us... or you are against us." Terribly simplistic... but accurate to ten decimals.

Sad indeed that this is what it comes to.

Feeling sad, morose and generally terrible,

Mike

LOL. Mike, I fear you may have read too deeply into what was really a rather shallow post. It was actually a silly take on another thread in this forum, leading into what I actually wanted to talk about (sport, that is).

While there is much (read: almost everything) in your post I disagree with, I feel we could hammer it out for ten pages and still not have changed one another’s attitudes on the matter.

I'm afraid though I can't ignore the fact that you've completely sidetracked my sporting thread, and for that you will now have to come up with something sports orientated to get it going again. You heard me!

😵 dyl...

As you know from previous experience, i have a hard time with you guys from the desert-south-somewhere. Never know when to laugh and when to cry... Sorry. I'll repent by saying that the NFL season has kicked off nicely here. My team (for no particular reason, except that I know the parents of one of the players) the Kansas City Chiefs are going to win it all! They are three and oh going into week four.

Further... our gym teacher in highschool tried to teach us Rugby, but a bunch of Wyoming guys outside without full length pants is just not something you will ever see. Too damned cold. That is why american football is the ONLY GAME IN TOWN. You get all those nice warm pads and long pants.😀

Mike, please accept my apologies. I've seen ‘The Simpsons’, I've witnessed American humour in action. I fully understand and appreciate the sledge hammer approach to having a giggle, and I'll try to accommodate my North American Cousins in the future.

On the long pants, you have to understand that in both codes of Rugby there is only a 4 man (maybe one or two more in Union) bench. I understand that there is actually another team or two standing by to replace the one playing at any given time in Grid Iron, plus there is a good deal of standing around. Whereas in the Rugby codes most of the players may get a short break (not counting half time) to rest, but besides that they're on to stay. They would sweat to death in full pants 😀.

And if you think they wear shorts, you really need to check out a game of Aussie Rules. Your genitals would scream in sympathy and your voice would rise involuntarily.

Cool! Kind of like tax day here!😕

We actually did manage to do a "scrum" or two... it all got off track when a guy broke loose and was tackled rather harshly. Concussion. Broken Leg. The guy who did the tackle had a broken clavical. One broken wrist. Two broken fingers. The school administrator banned Rugby the next day. Wyoming guys have no sense of self protection. It was a real mess. Seriously. One play... two players in hospital. Ugly.😞

Hey Dyl How can you be a rugby fan living in Melbourne? Aren't you required to be an Aussie rules guy? Isn't the Gand Final coming up? I thought Rugby was a Sydney thing?

Someone mention cycling?

Definitely my sport...especially on very steep, long, windy, well-paved hills when you get in a fetal position and pedal as hard as possible, and then take a corner at about 60 mph.....

Now you see the beauty of life...

For a big dude like me, that small, terrrrrr ible seat and the little matter of gravity... tend to make your favorite a real pain in the a**.

Never! Never sir! Let me hear you complain about stature and such again!

Under penalty of blisters on the butt.😛

I can assure you that the seat on my bike, and the Department of Transportation Road Maintenance Division have a conspiracy to stop me ever having children. Probably not a bad idea 😛.

They can't stop me using a bicycle to illustrate to suburban soccer moms why it's silly to drive the equivalent of a tank through town....

Unless you've become a suburban soccer mom in a Suburban, or one of the myriad bearded premed students who flock the town in their aged Mazdas, I don't think I've raced you 😉.

But you are the wind. When you see the poor... tired and down-trodden... you are there. When you see the dude in the helmet... peddling like a banchie... you are there.
