I don't think any of you are real anyway.
I have to agree with both Ice and Arby.

Ah what the hell, we are all Warner Brothers cartoons anyways.

Wow, I posted my thread and went to make dinner (I'm the cook between me and my wife. but like it that way), I was suprised to find such a huge response and struggled to decide whom to reply to (is that the correct use of whom, gosh I don't know, sounds like a job for Nordleys?). Anyway yeah I can buy into that, chess is an adevrsarial game so maybe it attracts more people of that nature, add the internet factor and you have a gun powder barrel waiting to be ignited. In a way its dissapointing that a site for chess players which should attract above intelligent people results in heaps of petty arguements (I am perhaps also guilty?).

Despite that we all play chess, and theoretically anyway, are therefore logical thinkers to varying degrees, the only other common ground we have is that we post in these Forums.

Inside, each of us is still the result of our parental upbringing and the pre-formed opinions we gain from that, those of our college peers, work peers, and if we are inclined to accept his opinion, even a late-night drunk at the bar.
Sometimes, each of us is the latter, even when sober.

As single persons, we decry our lot, and as parents, we worry what will become of our children.

Some of us are good with words (spellchecking aside), and can put them together to communicate as effectively in writing as well as verbally.

Some are of us not so good, and either abandon the thread, or else are quickly frustrated by another's inability to understand. Often, this is simply down to the fact that we write considerably less than we think.

All in all, we are human, and we act and react accordingly...and all that this implies.

I don't buy that analysis. When I was active in the chess community back in the early seventies, the players were almost exclusively, 1. Male! 2. Introverted! 3. Nerds, etc. BUT: Even the occasional 10-12 year old prodigy was polite, quiet, and well brought up!
With the advent of the internet I've noticed a decided lack of character development FAR beyond that to be attributed to the privacy of identity! Some of the characters on here are the aforementioned 10-12 year olds. Even though chronologically they may be 70!! They are and act as spoiled brats who have never learned (or been taught) to lose gracefully and whats even MORE important, how to WIN gracefully!! Enough griping as there are MORE than enough nice, intelligent, people on here to make up for the rest!

Yes but I started this thread specifically limiting it to internet arguements, if you read my original first post I am sort of saying what you are, but I believe that most of these people would avoid confronation in face to face encounters and only act this way on a keyboard. However on the dog forum I mentioned no one ever sems to argue, yet here it is going on all the time.

There are a few users who I doubt would hesitate to get into a fight in real life, even physically, such as no1maurader, skeeter and shavixmir. That's why I always carry tools with me. These being:

For no1: A big stick and a can of silly string (so I can knock no1's cane away, and shoot silly string into his open mouth).

For Skeeter: A small wooden cross and printouts of Xanthos' old posts (the cross because she is, in reality, a vampire, and the printouts to distract her, since she can't seem to stop talking about him).

For Shav: A small bag of mini Oreos (I can throw them like you throw a stick for a dog to fetch).

I've just remembered (as I am just logging in right now) that yahoo has a huge number of chess players that seem to want to argue, insult and bicker too

Oreo's are good. But why did you have to mention Xanthrax? Settle down youngster and go tie a tourniquet around your neck just in case you get bit. 🙄
