@very-rusty saidOf karate, I only know the style I was taught. Shuri-ryu. I have seen and watched other styles, and the differences are often stylistic, rather than basic. I use some techniques from Okinawan karate, especially the weapons moves. It was me trying to bring Okinawan kobudo into my dojo that got me kicked out.
How many different styles of Karate do you know Suzie Q?

I've since studied and trained in Muy Thai and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, much like Michelle Waterson, who is interestingly my exact height and weight.
@suzianne saidMy brother you called a pansy knows many different styles, mind you he has been at it probably close as old as you are. He once joined a place to learn one kick that he liked. He likes putting the different styles together to make up one he calls his own. I know he has put many hours and spent a lot of money on it over the years. He said it gets in the blood and is hard to quit. I told him to try and at least get into tournaments in his own age group, but he told me they not in the same shape the younger guys are. They look at me he says and see an old man and under estimate which is their mistake. To me he looks like a man in his mid 30's not his actual age. Like I told you he doesn't go for points he goes for the knock out every fight, doesn't always get it, but goes for it. He has my respect.

Like goad doesn't look 47 and could pass for a lot younger in my opinion.

@very-rusty saidhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ry%C5%AB_(school)
Ryū (龍, 竜, 隆, りゅう, リュウ, Ryū) is a Japanese masculine given name and family name meaning "dragon".

@suzianne saidI was talking linguistically, not karately. 😀
I think you are confusing kun'yomi Japanese with on'yomi Sino-Japanese. Both are from the kanji, but one is more heavily influenced by Chinese than Japanese. Ryu as dragon is from the Chinese kanji.
Gakko is more of school as a place, like a summer camp. Ryu is a school, meaning a style, as for example, ko-ryu, meaning "old school". Perhaps this d ...[text shortened]... which talks about the usage of -ryu in martial arts.

You said Ryu is Japanese for school. It isn't. It means dragon.

@suzianne saidJust think if you could put all these techniques together Suzie Q?

@very-rusty saidDon't worry old chap, both of us are too up front to be frauds. 😀
Could you show me the post where I said goad is a fraud?
I think you could be the one being dishonest now.
I've called him many things over the years but don't believe fraud would be one of them. 😉 😛

@ghost-of-a-duke saidWhen I am on here I don't think 'worry' would even be in my vocabulary, hell I even spelled that correctly no red line under it anyways! 😉

@very-rusty saidI do. That was my point.

I do. That was my point.
They wouldn't give him a black belt because he wouldn't follow the rules. They ended up having to give him one when he started beating all the black belts in tournaments. Didn't look good a guy with a brown belt beating all the black belts....LOL....I still laugh when I think about that one.

@very-rusty saidI don't think that karate styles are different enough to worry about. Some purists claim otherwise. Okinawan karate is truly some old school stuff. But I was practicing katas with someone who learned Okinawan karate from a young age, and the katas were all nearly the same.
How many different styles are there and how many do you actually know or have done? I know it takes years to master them. Many of the names sound familiar, as I've heard my brother say them.

@suzianne saidPerhaps 5 or 10 years down the road you'll look at it in a different light. Have your tried MMA?
