Yeah Santana is a damn fine guitar player. Still prefer Gilmour thoughπ
As for drummers, not too up on them, but if I had to pick a favourite, it would be John Bonham, simply because of Moby Dick. That's an amazing drum solo from the Led Zeppelin II album. I've heard a live version, which goes on for about 8 minutes of just Bonham and his drums. Amazing stuff.
CD's that live in the car...
Beth Orton - Trailer Park
PJ Harvey - Dry
Radiohead - the Benz
Bjork - Vespertine
Stereolab - Dots and Loops
REM - Murmour
David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
Beatles - White Album
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Genesis - Selling England by the Pound
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells

How many people participating in this thread know/remember the drummer solo of Gene Kruppa in "Sing, sing, sing", accompaniying the great clarinetist (and conductor/arranger) Benny Goodman?
Oh, may be I'm getting too old... π

Why stupid? Your opinion is welcome! If you are a drummer, of course you have listen with great attention to a lot of them, and of course, you can mention a lot of names that I don't know (but I wish to).
While revising your list of names. I've found someones that (to my poor memory) impressed me as very good drummers/percusionists.
But I'm astonished 'cos you haven't named Kruppa! Never heard of him?
Cheers!
alrighty-some of my favourite bands:
iron maiden
megadeth
dream theatre
AC/DC
slayer
van halen
the darkness
reel big fish
led zepplin

and best guitarist of all time? Van Halen (van halen)
best drummer? nicko McBrain (current maiden)

I only omitted Gene Krupa because I was trying to confine the list to rock drummers (with the exceptions of the stupendous Tony Williams and the genre-crossing Dennis Chambers). It's also why I didn't mention Buddy Rich. Or Elvin Jones. Or Jack DeJohnette. Or Steve Gadd. And the list goes on and on!
How about a little punk goodness π in there?
Rancid
Transplants
NoFX
(The evergreen) Ramones
Pennywise
MXPX
Goldfinger
Misfits
... even some Clash and Sex Pistols
Some new(ish) bands that are very cool, but who I haven't seen mentioned yet:
Socialburn
Eve 6 (Band of the year for me)
The Exies
Jack Johnson (friggin great chilled stuff)
BTW, I only managed to write this after taking a cold shower. That new avatar of PG is quite... hypnotising π

Bunch of Good Bands!

forgot the rest, will probably remember later...
Pink Floyd... Animals is Great! Wish they never split.... all music after is pretty much the same after Rodger Waters left.... I don't think either guy works well alone, they made great music together!
Counting Crows on SNL... check it out!
Pearl Jam... come on guys, make some good music again... you try to hard!
Seether is a new one and can't remember their song... but I am waiting for all the new bands to sort themselves out and get some new CD's.
Yes, I like goo goo's and Tool... Oasis!? No... I decided not to like them regardless of what I think about any song they did... I like to not like them! Ug!
Bush is my pick for Beatles sound like kind of band... and they didn't need to say it... they just did it.
First Album is great but must admit I don't have any after that. I'll post more about Bush if anyone wants to talk about them.
Bush good, Oasis Bad!
