A lot of the newer bands have the AWESOME first album and mediocre after that I am discovering.

Bush is awesome- their first album 6teen stone is one of my favorite cd's to listen to. I have 2 others, golden state and the science of things- they are good but they just aren't 6teen stone. definitely not cd's i would listen to on a regular basis. My favorite song of theirs is "Comedown".

Seether is a really good new band, their cd rocks. I'm not sure how well they'd do with future cd's though, they just have that sound of not going very far I guess.

Pearl Jam- definitely one of my favorite bands, but they will never put out anything as good at "Ten". Their later albums you have to kind of sift through to get the good songs out of them. I like a lot more of the songs than I used to, but they really had to grow on me.

I really think "The Wall" is my fave Pink Floyd. But it has some personal meaning for me too, the other stuff of course is great.

I noticed Black Lung said Dave Matthews. It's funny how I never find too many Dave fans and yet their concerts are ALWAYS sold out. They are so popular, I just can't find the fans! Before I saw them in concert, they were alright, not anything I could listen to on a day to day basis. Then I went to the concert. These guys are SO amazing- they are original and their musical talent is phenomenal. In concert, they play their song then go off for another ten minutes or so musically and you're loving every minute of it. I just watched their new DVD- Live from Central Park, wow. So now I am on a Dave tangent. 😀

Seether is a great band - for me the best band ever to come out of South Africa.

DMB are also great.
Me and the lung used to buy a bottle of Jack Daniels and just listen to Dave all night in our university days (not so long past) 🙂

And where was Dave born? South Africa! 😀

If you like DMB do yourself a favour and get Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds live at Luther College - just Dave and Tim on guitars - awesome!

I've heard that Luther College CD once, my brother has it. Great stuff. It's on my list of things to buy once I can afford it again. Right now out of the albums I have, I am stuck on Listener Supported, have to listen to it everyday! 🙄

Chester is amazing, and I am remiss for omitting him from my exhaustive list. Check out his stuff with Frank Zappa if you have the chance. The album Studio Tan, the song RDNZL in particular, is pretty amazing with some great drum and marimba interplay.

Selling England by the Pound is such a great album, especially the third song, Firth of Fifth. That piano melody at the beginning is particularly stunning as is the haunting solo. It's so strange with 16th notes grouped in threes and fours, and these small groups are joined together in interesting combinations. The meters range from 2/4 to 13/16 and even 15/16. The harmony is mostly B flat, though the middle section is in another key. I'm listening to it right now but I need a keyboard to figure it out. My guess is that it moves up a fifth to G flat, but I could be mistaken. At the end of the introduction, the harmony shifts smoothly by a half-step from B flat to B, the key of the main portion of the song.

Wow, that was a tangent! Anyway, yeah, great album. I also really like Danicng with the Moonlit Knight and Cinema Show. I really wish they'd remaster this album, as it would benefit greatly from modern-day production.

Have you heard the new King Crimson, The Power to Believe? It's the best thing they've put out since THRAK,
