This aside, he just doesn't do it for me in my opinion there are better blues guitarists (Albert Collins for one) who don't tire me with endless use of vibrato. I secretly reckon it's Parkinson's...
I like Albert King better as a guitar player, too. But B.B. King is a masterful performer, even if he is a 600-pound diabetic (sorry EDG). Plus, I once heard him say in an interview that when he dies he'd like to go out "on top on a beautiful woman, heh heh." Props! πŸ˜€

it's from aug 2003, so yeah it's kinda old, but kurt cobain is 12th, while eddie van halen himself is 70th...? joe satrani and steve vai don't even get an appearence and randy rhoads is 85th?

although i think no.3 should have probubly been a bit higher...
Fair enough, Jimi could play but he hardly evre wrote any decent stuff. Most of his big hits were written by other Guitarists and bands, so I don't think he really tops the list for me, still top 10 though.

Cobain shouldn't even be on the list, and Jeff Beck should be top 5 easy!

While they may have been written by someone else, Jimi played them like no one else...after all we're not talking song writters here.

Eddie would make my top 3.

I just thought I'd add that I saw Frank & The Mothers years back, and it was a somewhat unusual, pleasant surprise that night. Rather than being the verbose commentator on the world's absurdities, he was a driven guitarist that evening. He's one of the finest I've ever had the privilege of seeing, and I've seen a few good ones.

45th? Bah!

That explains your error. Of course, the remedy is pretty self-evident...

Disappointed? Yngwie Malmsteen is a walking embarrassment.

David Gilmore and George Harrison are way too low on the list.

Brian May of Queen is even on the list?
Same for Jimi Hendrix - waaaayyyy overrated!

I can't believe Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers isn't even mentioned. He should be in the top ten.

Yep

That list is quite old, but I think it's accurate enough. And Starrman, how can you say Bo Diddley sucks? The guy inspired MANY guitarists that you love, I guarentee you that. And no one here can say Hendrix doesn't deserve to be #1. The guy is mesmerizing when he plays.

Now who wants some? Huh? *puts up dukes* What, who has somethin' to say??? Let's go!

I think one of the problems (look at me get all serious here...) is that they don't define what actually makes the said guitarist great.

Is it his pure and utter skill? If so, then what about all the Spanish flamenco guitarists or classical guitarists everywhere in the world?

Is it originality? Then Jimi deserves a top 3 position.

Is it recognisable playing style? Then BB King surely deserves the position he gets. I mean I can recognise that rubbish anywhere at anytime in any state of mind.

Is it stage presence? If so, then Springsteen should have a mention, so should Angus Young and so should I.

So, they should have various top 10's. 1 for each catagory.
What they fail to mention completely though is that guitar solos are per definition tedious. There's nothing like a fallis obsessed idiot, who's just not good enough to play piano, showing off by playing a 20 minute guitar solo which bores the tears out of desert rocks.

However, in case you're interested, my favourite guitar solo (if such a thing can exist) is Springsteen's solo on "Streets of fire" on Darkness on the edge of town.
The guitar sounds like it's dying and the wailing just thrills me to bits.

Have you seen "Woodstock: Peace, Love, & Music"? That's the documentary of the concert, and they have a beautiful shot of Hendrix from behind while he's playing.... and I swear to you, almost the entire crowd is just staring at him in awe. Yes, most of them were so baked they had smoke coming out of their ears, but regardless, the guy is mesmerizing when he plays. I love The Who, and Townsend is definitely one of the best, but when I think Woodstock, I think Jimi, baby! 😡
