It is a group mentality thing... nobody really dislikes GB that much but he earned the ire of a popular bully who happened to have a few fair points.
Him, and of course Red Night and his bunch of bleating idiots, are part of some BIG reasons a bunch of 'older' users don't visit these forums, and for that matter the whole site, anymore.
I know for me personally GB helped ruin what was once a pretty decent forum.
Luckily there are other places I can go.

Also, what ever happened to the brilliant software you invented (under the label, www.gb-away.com)? Popularity back in the day suggested it might go viral! -gb

You've hit exactly upon my differing humour point...my 'rousing the rabble' comment was entirely that, humorous... whereas your reply could easily be interpreted as one that may well have taken offence to it.
Condescension isn't one of the attitudes that strike me as light-hearted or funny. Is humor different where you are?

Although I'm only an occasional poster here, I've noticed a good number of overly 'dismissive' posts whenever GB makes an offering...I think you're right re: 'group mentality thing' and that probably negates any one person for being responsible...it could therefore be anyone's subsequent post that's then responsible for 'rousing the rabble' 😀 `
To be ...[text shortened]... what GB posts...when in fact it's only meant to be light hearted. Just my take...

There is a ton of condescension to be experienced here, in all the forums, and my take on it is because it's a chess site. I figure a popular chess site is going to be a magnet for highly opinionated people who fancy themselves intellectuals.
Me included!
I enjoy most of the back and forth. I wouldn't come here if I didn't.
I'm with Great Big Stees... (other than some of the spirituality discussions) I don't take the forums, or myself, too seriously.
Screw all of you, and you can all go to heck.
GO FALCONS by the way.
Hmph.

Dude, believe what you want.
These forums were never perfect, but they were fun, until that was sucked out by a small bunch of self-righteous douchebags.
May in 2014 GB will be able to get back on his well trodden, now wobbly feet.
