I'm distraught!
The thread is gone before I even had a chance to look at it.
Oh well, I suppose I should be thanking the mods for saving me from reading something that might offended my delicate sensibilities.
On the other hand, since kids were banned from RHP a few months ago, I'd rather like to make my own mind up.
If I find a post offensive (and I've never found ANY of Shavixmir's offensive yet), then I'll reply and say so.
On a final note, if guys like Ravello and Arrakis want to slag each other off, then I would remind you both that RHP has a perfectly good messaging system.
Time after time I see perfectly valid threads hijacked by people who just want to insult each other.
If you want to do that, fine, but save me the tedium of having to read it in a forum.

2. This thread, like so many others, is really about a debate between two points of view. The first says 'I have a right to read and write anything i want, and anyone who interferes with that right is a fascist'. The second says 'There are limits on what is acceptable in a public forum, particularly one accessible to children as young as 14'.
3. There have, historically, been some limitations place on freedom of speech - yelling 'fire' in a crowded theatre (when a 'reasonable person' in the situation of the speaker would not believe there was actually a fire), libel, and obscenity. I presume in this case that a perception of the third of these provided the motivation for the removal of the thread. It could be argued that the standards appropriate to this forum are similar to those applied to newspapers. That is, if it would be considered unacceptable to publish something in a newspaper, it should be off-limits here too. Someone wanting to argue for this could point to RHP's accessibility to children as young as 14, and the availability of other fora for people interested in 'specialised' topics to pursue those interests. They can also point out that it is really up to the owners and administrators to decide, through their appointed representatives the moderators, what is acceptable and what is not. Paying customers who disagree strongly have the option of withdrawing their custom.
4. Of course it is always possible for moderators to impose their own prejudices and preferences on the site and moderate things that offend them personally but do not offend others. That is why i think that, ideally, moderators' decisions should be made public. However, i imagine that if this were so, they would be in receipt of large numbers of insulting PMs. Personally, i would not like to be receiving lots of PMs from people angry that their 'bestiality' thread had been removed (I'm not a moderator, BTW). I guess people who dispute moderators' decisions can appeal to the site admins.

I presume it must have copped the 'x' amount of alerts, though. Still, perhaps a system could be put in place where recommendations cancel out alerts? It seems a bloody shame that a post recced so many times could be knocked off by what is almost certainly a small minority.
