Hi, i keep seeing this phrase and not being a particularly trendy web head, i wondered at the definition and the etymology of this word. Having often encountered it myself when successfully hi jacking a thread, being told to take it to this forum or that forum Spanky has left me a little bewildered. From whence did it originate i wondered? What do ...[text shortened]... e at Delphi, i lay my problem before you. What does this mean and from whence did it originate?

Hi, Robbie. Common webspeak meaning/derisive usage was spelled out for me a couple of years ago.
Just verified it going to 'spanky/slang'... Urban Dictionary provides dozens of definitions, which include
[hidden]"Term of endearment referring to a male,s masturbatory habits. Hey, Spanky. You think you can drop that lotion long enough to hit the clubs tonight?"[/hidden]

Originally posted by duecerno this actually has created more confusion, why should a character in a nineteen thirties children's comedy evolve into an internet forum idiom. what is it with the character that lends itself to this expression. If this is the case why are some using it with mildly derogatory sexual connotations as a kind of 'put down'? it doesn't make the slightest bit of sense to me. i wish i was more brainy so i could explain it 🙂
